Default Buying a 350Z - Things to look for??

Hi all,

New to the forums, but since I dont yet own the car I felt an intro was inproper until i buy one

Anyways I have found one that I am crazy about so now before I commit I have a few questions for you Z experts.

The car is a 2003 Touring Coupe with 65K miles and a 5 Speed Auto, Leather, Bose etc. Are there any known issues that I should make sure are ok before I buy, and anything to look out for?? It is getting inspected tomorrow, but any extra advice is always needed!

Thanks

Welcome.

There are no secret hidden problems with the 350Z. Problems that a mechanic will not see. I assume that the mechanic is familiar with performance sports vehicles, and will do an inspection accordingly.

Just ask for a carfax report, make sure it has a clean title and all that jazz, and you should be set.

Be sure to post an *** load of pictures after you get it.

Thanks for the replies, yea i have the carproof report its all clean, and its going to a Nissan dealer now for the inspection! My only issue is the transmission, its the cheapest one ive found so far, but for $2k more is it really that big of an upgrade to go to a manual, I dont do alot of road trips and where i live its so flat you can see your dog run away for a week. I dont mind having an automatic, but to the people that have the auto....Is it responsive??

Thanks for the input!

Check the oil mine was black and low on the dip stick when I got it. Look at the tires and the brakes look for anything that could be broken. I had a broken air vent driver side door and i'm still waiting for my new one to come in. Also I had a TPMS lite that was on and I had to turn the lite out myself with a TPMS activation tool.

It's a great transmission, one of the fastest shifting traditional ATs out there, actually. But the 2006+ 5ATs are better, since they rev-match and are more adaptive to the driver's styles and habits. I personally only drive my car in the manual mode.

If you want a manual, find one and buy it. Don't "settle" for the auto if you have your heart set on a manual just because of this one car, as there are dozens of Zs out there. The auto is quite nice, but if you're a manual guy. . .

2003 - fuel filler recall: yes
2003 - oil consumption issue: no
2005 and 2006 rev-ups - oil consumption issue: yes

Ehh personally I don't think any auto Z is a good choice. It takes away all the fun.

Carfax doesnt mean the car is ok. A clean carfax could also mean that nothing was run though insurance, there could still be damage that was fixed.

1. Wheels
2. Seats
3. Doors
4. Engine
5. Trunk

................. You know, make sure to check for all the basic stuff...other than that, buying a Z will ensure everything else takes care of itself.
