BINGO! I LOVE the GTR, but my only complaint is not having a nice 6 speed manual transmission to go along with its 400+ horsepower. I guess the rest of the GTR experience should make up for that, but I still feel like it is a must for a sports...and dare I say, Super car.

I work for Mercedes and feel the same way about all the AMG models...not ONE comes manual. We offer it only on a SLK or C Class, but the very models that are known for their craftsmanship and power, come with an automatic transmission...its a crime if you ask me.

Unless you have so much money buying it does not matter, it is silly to waste so much money on a car. I say invest, plan your future, & retirement. Like all cars, there will be new ones that are faster, better etc.

My bet is you will not listen to my advice so if that is the case, remember when you turn 55 yrs old & then ask yourself was it worth it to give up years of free time so that you were able to drive a car around.

ya, i'm with the other person that pointed this out. You are talking about buying a GT-R then you say "eh, i might just get an SS camaro and supercharge it"....wow, so you're talking night and day different cars. One is a big hog and the other is a sports car built for track.

I think you're on here talking out your booty to make yourself look good. the GTR and Z aren't close to the same thing. That's like saying "an escort is pretty much the same as the Z, it has wheels, a transmission, a windshield"

dude, there is NOTHING the same. Different geometry, suspension parts, about 250hp more, awd......wtf are you smoking?

Hell, it pulls over 1g on the skidpad. Something a Z isn't going to do without mods.

You can get the zo6 or ss camaro if you want, but at the track they won't beat a GT-R unless you put some serious cash into the handling. You would have to go up to a ZR-1 package with the vette to get that type of handling.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you like the Z a lot, and SUPPOSEDLY can afford to have a gtr, why don't you go F/I with your Z, do it right and spend a fraction of the cost as it would be for that GTR. If it was me, I would go that right. I know it's a GTR, but I like the look of the Z more, and I think you could ulitmately spend a lot less and make that Z your dream car as opposed to buying that boat of a car. Too heavy, not enough power. All the hype of the GTR is caca if you ask me

+1 on test driving a Z06

why dont you sell your 350 and ur bmw, go to japan and spend the money that you got from ur bmw and 350 and buy u a 380 rs and mod the living S*** out of it. then bring it back here. im sure that you will be one of the few or maybe the only one with it. or you can just juice up what you got and be thankful about it.

i personally have not driven one. the dealership hasn't made one sale on one yet either.

I'm just saying your basic analogy that since it has a transmission, wheels, etc that it's pretty much the same thing. it's a completely different car. That's like saying a camaro is the same as a corvette. Not even close.

also, i think most people are forgetting that the zo6 wasn't what kept up with the GT-R on the track....the ZR-1 did. To compare the same class that would put the vette zr-1 quite a bit more money than the gt-r.

Yes.

Then you can hang around and remind 350Z drivers that they are commoners and you are the man.

dimitri, after turbo-ing my car, I wish I had saved up for as GTR instead. Looks at members here like bambam, 4.2 stroker, built as built can be, to paraphrase him, the GTR is what people were always trying to get to by building their Z. Building a Z is a looong, adruous process, you can get a GTR tomorrow and beat all but built Z's. You will need about 30-40G's into your Z to properly get it up to GTR level and make it semi-reliable. I'm 20k deep (not including everthing non-engine related) without a built block, the next power level increase requires too many more parts for my budget right now!!!!

Get the GTR, it will get you a LOT of attention too

As far as affording it, it seems reasonably priced for a super-car...

But don't forget that the maintiance is very costly. Rumors are that its about $8,000 for a full break job.

I would go to edmunds and do that "True Cost to Own" thing that gives you the 10 year timeline

Best of luck

It's an obvious choice to trade the Z in for a GT-R if you really have the money, but any car like that is going to require very expensive upkeep.

But if you test drove the GT-R and you think it's not much different than your Z, then don't buy it.....cuz it should be a WORLD of difference away from a Z!

Super Cars don't have back seats.

I agree with King, just go F/I its the best of both worlds. Cheap(er) upkeep and more power then the GTR if you do it right
