Hydro Dipping
Took the last 24 hours since I had to re-finish and re-dip one of them a few times.
So my door barrels looked like poop, like most Z barrels I looked at when I bought this one. I got some genuine Fiber Carbon covers for a few places but for door barrels I wanted to try my hand at the hydro dipping. I just used a mydipkit for this, I am fairly happy with the results. Also my navigation hatch had a few imperfections, thought I would try that wrap vinyl fiber carbon simulant and man was that a mistake, couldnt get creases out. I was left with a glue covered hatch. The Hydro dipping may of saved the day, will post pics after a few clear coats and mounting back in car.
These pics dont really do it much justice as you can actually see the thread in the weave in the details. Also it takes 14 days to fully cure, after that I will buff these up for a nice shine.

I was afraid of that actually. While better than straight spray painting the part like I have seen on so many Z's, and though its about as professional of a job as it could look, I agree its still a bit on the tacky side. The problem is that all the aftermarket carbon fiber solutions for the door barrels kind of suck IMO. I bought and almost installed some matte black plastic ones from factory which I think would of looked okay, better than before anyway. But also thinking about a black on grey carbon fiber hydro dip to match the real carbon fiber veneers I have on the door controls in the pic.
What have you done for your barrels, surely the original OEM ones havent held up?
