Does the Z really have a 20 Gallon tank?
I just came back from a fill up. I had between 19-22 miles left on my DTE and I filled up my tank until gas actually started to come back out the fill hole and I wasn't even able to squeeze in 15 gallons. I was 14.8 gallons..
I heard of 1-2.5 gallon reserve (meaning after the gas light goes on) but could 5 gallons? Anybody actually get more then 15-16 gallons into your Z?

I dont know exactly how much the reserve is, but I do know for sure that nissan says 20 gallons. its on the website, in the owners manual, and service manual. so I would just assume it is 20 gallons... no idea how to tell for sure, I certainly dont want to run it dry or anything, but I believe there is a sizable reserve along with some error by the gas gauge and DTE meter.
I fit 18 in today... the system is just very conservative.. and then the funnel system in it is very prone to fill up early... even when you run it wayyyy down.. often its hard to fill all the way back up.

As has been discuss before, the Z’s trip computer is not all that accurate.
You can’t depend on it to accurately measure your gas mileage and I wouldn’t depend on it to gauge DTE.
I've never measured it exactly, but I would not be surprise if it doesn't have 5 gallons left when the "low" lights up.

I wish the DTE would indicate 0 miles left when I had around 2 gallons in the tank. It would be much more useful. A few weeks ago I was stuck in traffic with --- on my DTE and I was worrying about running out of gas, but iin reality I probably had about 5 gallons!
thats the idea... for many design reasons you really shouldnt run it past 5 gallons anyway, the pump is most likely sitting in the fuel, and is cooled by it, with no gas its exposed. also anything harmless floating on your gas would be sucked into the pump.
that last 5 gallons should really be considered an emergency reserve not an extra 100 miles after 0.

The tank is 20 gallons and it goes DTE ------ when you have three gallons left.
You have 60 miles left when it goes DTE------.
A big reeserve but better than watching someone in a Z walking down the highway with a gallon of milk full of gas.

I wonder if this is related to an earlier thread about problems of filling up. I can't find that discussion but I short people couldn't fill a full tank of gas because of some problem that Nissan supposedly aknowlegde.
