350z Repairables
Whats up fella's
Not z owner, but in the family.
I've been browsing the z repairables. Surprisingly the prices for the wrecked cars really aren't as low as you would think.
Beyond that, is it worth it for anyone that has experience doing this?
I.e. light flood what effect would that have on an engine. Do they have to scap it and be replaced?
There are a ton of questions, but I was looking at an alternative way to save money and also be able to have a car that I want as a second car.

Yes, excellent thread.. Unfortunately for me, i'd have to have a shop do the work, but I tried googling the parts like a front clip and everything is parts location, so no readily available parts to at least see what those portion of cost would be.
Then you might as well buy a non-wrecked Z, hourly rates + parts wouldn't be worth buying a wrecked one and having it fixed.
There is a reason that they are concidered totaled... cause it is not worth it to fix it...
Im not saying i wouldn't do it, cause i have (05 Scion) but its always more then it seems. Like one random evap hose that had a dent and has to be replaced... ooo... nother $300.
Newer cars=less damage to concider salvage=more costly parts
5-10 year old cars= more probable damage= potentially cheap prophitable fix
10+= cheap parts but aint worth the fix
The 350 is start to fall into that good catagory.

I wouldn't want to flip it. I recently purchased a car and didnt go with the z only because im in the northeast and need a year round dd.
Thus, I'm in love with z's and was trying to figure affordable options without either a lump sum outlay or a large note..

I always wondered why people did this with mildly expensive cars? Not to take from your goals or dreams but to me it's only going to be as good as living half the dream since you own half the car. Especially since clean 03's can be had for 12k, that to me is very affordable as opposed to going through a hassle of buying a z, then putting the money into it, only to realise A) it still has a salvage title and B) a clean Z can be had for only a couple g's more.
I think the only way this makes sense is if you do the work yourself. If you have a shop do the work it the cost would be so high you may as well buy a used "unwrecked" Z.
Also, I seem to recall reading here that Nissan will void the warranty on salvaged cars,

The only time a repairable can be considered a smart buy is if you plan on 2 things: 1. Do it KNOWING you are gonna own it forever. and 2. Like in my case, knowing I am gonna spend 75% of the time in the car on the race track. I just bought a 05 track version with 24K on it that was already 95% rebuilt and has a salvage title. Knowing that I am gonna track the car and drive it like I stole it, I figured I couldn't go wrong for $10,000. So I have since had it painted in my orange/black/white paint scheme, roll bar, 4 sets of wheels, tires, ground effects, rear wing, I am into it now for just over 16K. I figure when all said and done i will be into it for about 18K which is cheap for a designated open track/time trial car with 16 tires and wheels which I will still occasionally drive on the street for test purposes.

ultimately, thats what id like to do. My brother in-law is into mustangs and does the nasa events around the country. He showed me a couple of vids of the races and I was like, I want to do this.
I've always liked the z anyway, but was looking for a way to find the best value. It may not be for a while that i am able to do something.
Ideally i would want the hr vs the de for na power, which is why the repairables (i was thinking) might be an option.

Those of you who talk about salvage titles like they are demons...honestly, they dont lower the sale value of the car much at all in my experiences. Being honest with the buyer and telling him/her the process in which we repaired the car and parts receipts etc. has helped a lot in the past, and hasnt caused the price to fall much at all when we sell.
Imo set a budget you can live with and work from there. Your options will fall into place then. Most likely you'll have to settle for an older model rather than an HR if your budget is on the lower end of the spectrum. However there are tons of good deals out there for even 20k or so.
