Hey, **** happens. If you want to prevent this, get some 3M expell film profesionally installed.

I don't think the work will be done on I35 until your kid's Z arrives.

Paint chipping problems on the 350Z will be a SUBSTANTIAL issue to new owners over the next few months. Trust me.

For a preview of the paint horror that will follow I suggest that you research this link:

http://www.nissanpaint.com/

When my Silverstone 350Z Track arrives in a few weeks, I'm going to minimze driving it until either Xpel or Stongard comes out with a paint protection kit.

For those not familiar with the 3M Scotchcal paint protection film, I'd suggest that you browse through www.xpel.com

I have the full Xpel paint and headlight kit on my 2000 BMW M Coupe, 2002 WRX and 2003 Maxima. I never own another new car without it.

Default Hey Dean...

What about the paint protection the dealer is offering to put on the Z? Worth it?

Also - you're an owner of a MCoupe. I was either going to buy that exact car in racing green or the Z Track... I went with the ZTrack. It was suposed to be here by now but is now scheduled for next week.

I am wondering what you think of the differences. Looks like your Z isn't here yet either, but going into the purchase I am wondering what you're thoughts are. Will be very interested to hear the comparison when the Z arrives.

I've ordered the Touring kits for my Track, the dealer will be installing leather and the touring stereo package, so my interests in the comparison are primarily performace and fun to drive related.

Let us know. Nice looking MCoupe BTW.

Dean, Sweet M Coupe!

I love those ugly little things! I was looking for an '01 but I hear a ODB I conversion + supercharger gets you 400 HP on the E36 type motor.

It would be interesting to see how the Z stacks up. Please post your impressions.

Chris,

I'm looking forward to posting my own personal observations about the 350Z vs 2000 BMW M Coupe (and my current garage queen, 1997 Supra TT).

The M Coupe's styling really appeals to me, but the beauty is in the driving. It really has the most direct, accurate and steering and "road feel" that I've experienced in a car. The M Coupe is a no compromise sports car that only a few people really understand.

I suspect that the 350Z will be more comfortable, marginally faster and have a more modern rear suspension design than the M Coupe.

I teach at a pretty rough high school, and people who I talk to ask me why the sam hell I would risk driving the car to school everyday. And this is my reply:

this is a nissan. Thats all. Not a porche or ferrari. Yes I love the Z and its the coolest car ever, but its a just a nissan CAR. It will get dinged and scratched...cuz it is a DRIVERS car not a SHOW car.

I restored the 280 you see below 4 years ago then locked it up in the garage for years, driving about once every two weeks for 10 miles. All the dings and nicks on it today occured when

-a box fell off the rafters
-I tripped on a shop light and it crashed into the hood
-dropped a wrench on the fender
-bumped into it with a drum
-slipped with a screw driver when inserting trim
***no matter what, **** HAPPENS

rpgonzalez .. i completely agree .. thats the beauty of the car .. although i was sad when I intially noticed it, i came to grips pretty quickly with the fact that its just a car and a "drivers car" at that.

Ill do my best to avoid these things, but in the end their isnt squat anyone can really do to avoid the randomness that is life.

If I get the Xpel system installed, how do we maintain the surface.
1. Wash as usual??
2. Does we wax the surface?
3. Does it scratch??

Anybody know??

You wash and wax over the expel like you would if it wasn't there. Check out 350zforum, I remember reading something about a new expell kit for the 350z...

Yep, once installed the Xpel 3M film can be washed, waxed, and treated just like any other painted surface of the car. We are hoping to have the kits ready by the end of next week
mail me if you have any questions invisiguard@sbcglobal.net
