Tint on part of the car
Tinting the front windows is illegal here in Illinois. Does anyone have any pics of their cars with the rear window and the two small side windows tinted only?

I live in Chicago in the near Morton Grove, Skokie, Niles... I have 5% all around (limo). Everytime I go to Niles, I get sh*t from the cops. They **** me off. Chicago cops could give a sh*t. It's almost like the Niles cops wait for me. So I have been playing the "push both window buttons down" game everytime i enter Niles.
So I dont recommend getting too dark of a tint if you live in the Niles area.
Im planning on changing the tint to 50% all around- it looks really classy.

Take a look at V-Kool
I have mentioned V-Kool on a couple other posts in the past. I wanted something to dramatically reduce heat here in California. Also, I don't like changing the appearance of the Z, and certainly don't want problems with cops.
Here are links about the material, below. In the first two, at their USA site, they claim that some European automakers actually put it in their OEM windshields. They don’t mention which one’s though. I’m tempted. The third link is to their German site and has more performance characteristics.
Anyway, I love it. You barely know it is there. However, when the sun is shining on my arm and I roll up the window, it is perceptually cooler. One thing though: it is not cheap.
Has anyone else tried this material??

Re: Tint on part of the car
In the land of the never-ending Big Brother, 10% on quarter sides and 20% on rear window. Front windows are not tinted. Officer Friendly approved.

I drove a Corvette in Illinois for 2 years with a front license plate installed. After observing many, many cars without a front plate, I decided to remove my plate. The very same day I removed it, I was pulled over for it. The cop did not give me a ticket. Instead he told me to go home, put the plate back on and bring it by the cop shop (upon which time he would return my license).
NOTHING LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE A 16 YEAR OLD WHEN YOU"RE 30. ILLINOIS COPS ARE SUCH A PAIN in the A$$.

My tint
I have 35% all the way around. Driver side, passenger side, side windows, and rear hatch. I will not put on the front license plate until I am told to.

I have 20% all around and 50% over the entire front windshield, and it looks great on my super black. Yes, it's illegal here in the commonwealth of KY, but cops would really have to know what they were looking for to tell it's on there. You can't really tell the front is tinted from the inside or out, but it makes my other tint appear much darker, and it protects my dash from some UV rays. IMO, the only issue with front tint is safety. If something comes through the front windshield, it may not shatter into thousands of harmless pieces like it is designed to. the tint will likely hold the glass together and come at you in one large piece. I don't have many passengers, and am willing to take on the risk for myself.

50% is what is legal in OH
I had 35% all around in my Z. No problems w/ cops. I never ran a front plate either (state requirement). I've pulled up and parked right in front of cops and quite a few occassions and none of them gave me **** about not having a front plate or the tint.

For the most part if you are very honest and up front with the Officer they will not do anything about it! Also realize that this gives them PC to pull you over, if they sense you are doing something you shouldn't be then this can result in a further investigation of your vehicle. If you are ever doing something illegal like drinking or drugs in the car then I would recommend not getting the tint.
