This pertains to the "17 year olds getting Z's" debate...

I worked for a local Mercedes Benz dealership for the past four years. Some of the cars I saw 16 and 17 year olds getting, made Zs look cheap. In particular, I recall a gentlemen buying is 16 year old grandson a clk 63 black series. It was one of the first few we had received at the dealership and it had the price tag of $130,000. So, maybe I have a skewed view, but a 17 year old getting a Z to me just means that they have parents that are financially well off. Unfortunately for me, I had to buy my own first car. A $500 1985 chevy cavalier.

16 - 1991 Ford Tempo
17 - 1998 Toyota T100
20 - 2003 Nissan 350z (Still have it, 23 now.)
I bought it with my deployment money from Iraq.
Say something about me not earning or being too young for it.

I just turned 21
When I was 16 I got a job and saved money and bought a 1981 Datsun 280zx with my own money. Put my own money into it fixing it up. Blew the head gasket a couple of times. Took the motor out and dropped in an LT1 from a corvette along with a 700r4 transmission. Did all this with my own money. Not a single dime was put into this car by my parents.
16- Datsun 280zx
Sold that car eventually and then bought a truck with MY OWN money.
19 - 2002 Dodge ram 1500
Just sold that and bought myself a 350z,
(again with my own money) because I'm not a little kid who's parents by them whatever they want. I grew up working for what I wanted.
21 - 2003 350z Roadster
I am fortunate to have a good job that pays me enough to pay my $280 car note and a $300 insurance note every month, and I just turned 21. So don't assume that when you see a young person driving a nice car that their parents bought it for them. Not always the case.

You seem very defensive for some reason, though. Its almost as if you think we are going to assume that you didn't buy it with YOUR OWN MONEY. You are right though, it isn't always the case, but it sure is the vast majority of the time

Here we go again… another “I bought a Z with my own money”, but subsidized by parents.
If I lived free of a mortgage, utilities, insurance, taxes, a teen still at home, and education expenses for my college child, there would be a lot more stuff I could buy with “my own money” too.
Frankly, I wouldn’t be driving a Z and on this forum. I’d have a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 ... and listening to whining teens on a 911 forum.
