Terrible gas mileage?
:

I average 17MPG around town/some HWY. 25MPG HWY ONLY. I typically put in 13-14 gal on a fill up from empty, although it could take another 3 gal or so if I really ran it down. That would give me 300 MI TOPS on a full tank. That's typical COMBINED driving. I would be lucky to get 400 miles on a full tank HWY ONLY.
SO......YOU'RE GETTTING 25MPG? AND...can put in a full 20 gallons??
My wifes 2012 Hyundai Sonata averages 24 MPG..and you're Z *ain't no Sonata*
If you fill the car up on empty you put in only 15-16 gallons in the tank.. How is this so? It's a 20 gallon tank? Where is the other 5 gallons? Guess what... still in the tank. After my MGP reads --- I can drive for another 100 miles. So, since I do mosty freeway driving, and It goes empty at about 350, and I still drive for another 100, thats 450... And I'm floring it everywhere.
I get 30 MPG and I reset the readings every fill up. I have gotten 5-7 better MPGs since I added a new intake, test pipes, and cat back. Better flow?
Call it BS. Buts the truth good sir. How about I send pictures?

I track every fillup with this site http://www.fuelly.com.. They have a mobile web app that makes it VERY simple to keep it up to date with every fillup.. There's also comparison data that'll tell you what others are getting..
Here's the summary page for the 350z http://www.fuelly.com/car/nissan/350z
Stats for 2 years of recreational highway and sometimes commuting shows the following stats for a stock 2004 350z Roadster with OEM tire sizes:
Best mileage - 27.7 MPG
Highest miles on tank - 389 miles
Largest fillup - 16.83 (358 miles on that tank in winter)
Average MPG over 43 fillups and 12,562 miles is 22.0 which is exactly what the old EPA published average was...

I have an 08' Z and always fill up with about 16 to 17 gallons. If i drive around the city I get between 300 and 340 miles to the tank, depends how I am on the gas. When I've gone on road trips that are all highway, I can squeeze out 400 miles if traffic is good.
2008 model, only put in about 8 gallons every fill up. usually get around 175 miles before i need to go to the gas station. sometimes ill get around 200. This is all city driving btw

I was staying out of this because racecar, but here is my entry point.
I figure in the one tank I ran on my car, which included ~50 miles in the rain, I got somewhere around 8 MPG. In pure dry conditions, I'm guessing I'll be just under 6 once I figure out how to drive it. I am actually very pleasantly surprised by how good the fuel economy is.
Buying a "Z" car for mileage is kind of like buying an elephant and expecting it to live off peanuts.
Since more often that not I am stuck doing city run-arounds, I've never hit the magical 20 mark, until I opened the taps in NorCal and returned an impressive and nearly-true 24.6 mpg. The most I've managed to fill was 17.3 gallons when gas was at its peak of nearly 5$ and I have not yet recovered from the aneurysm it gave me
However it does beg the question, as to how come automatic behemoth SUVs ever return anything on the right side of 20 mpg, when a stick shifting super aerodynamic Z chugs fuel like a frat brat?

I know this is a really old thread, but someone revived it, so i figured I would add mine info. Last year before ZdayZ, i got an OBDII scanner so on the trip to ZdayZ, i used it to track fuel and other stats. Well, after checking it at one point it said I was getting 24mpg. I was curious about that, so i reset it and let it go for a bit. Next time I checked it, it said 27mpg. Thats not too damn bad considering I have just shy of 1000whp on tap. Granted, when I mash the go pedal, I get like 3mpg.
At 80mph, my engines turning just over 1800rpm, barely chuggin along.

I have a '06 base, Stock minus a KnN filter (72,000miles), I get up to 28mpg on the highway (28.1 driving from winston salem NC to orlando) but as low as 15 in the city. I accelerate hard every so often to show up integras and mazda 3's, I take the tolls to work and the main drag on the way home (3am no traffic but still lights) I avg 19 mpg.
I haven't been able to keep my right foot out of the go-pedal of my Z since I bought it a couple of months ago either. Most fill ups are at 1/2 tank (ok-flame away) and I divide the number of miles driven by the amount of fuel I just put in and It's between 18-20mpg consistently.
If I were to drive until the light came on, I'd imagine 320-400 miles. No problem.

Some people here must be driving with their foot to the floor all the time. My driving is mostly open country roads, with a bit of stop and go city driving at the end of each day. I get at least 450 miles on each tank, and that's without the gas light coming on.
i get 19 to 20 on both city and highway and that is because i shift about 2 to 2.5 rpm's and i only go 5 mpg over speed limit which the fastest i go is 70 mph. not sure how much i get before light comes on since i never let it get past the quarter mark on the tank most the time i feel up on half but ill give it a go this time and see how much mine is.
I am going out on a limb here and say that it has better gas milage then the 93 sentra I had in high school. My 4cyl Altima, gets about 20 trips to work on a full tank. The Z, about 30.
