Default 2004 Enthusiast owner...advice on winter driving

Hey folks...

Recently moved from Seattle to Salt Lake City. I LOVE my 2004 Z and have had it since I purchased it brand new in 2004. I've never had any issues with it and paid it off 2 years ago. I've had NO intentions of getting rid of it, however, everyone keeps telling me there is no way in HELL I will be able to drive it in the snow here over the winter. This is my one and ONLY vehicle and would appreciate any advice of anything I can do to make my baby 'winter worthy'. Salt Lake is pretty good about keeping roads plowed and the local streets are fairly flat. Would a good set of snow tires as well as some weight in the back make my Z safe to drive locally from work and back?

Would appreciate any advice and thanks so much!!!

The 'Z' Maenad

Since you have VLSD, and TCS...you should be ok with a good set of winter tires and just driving safe. Don't really need to add weight to it.

+1 in winter tires. Ran Blizzaks on mine and I did fine through the snow.

Winter tires all around. Drive smoothly and the only worry you should have is ground clearance. I drove my Z with Blizzak WS60 tires through a Colorado winter last season with no issues.

Heres an idea. Sence your Z is paid off & salt is bad on cars, why not buy a winter beater? I bet you could find a older 4x4 hardbody or pathfinder for cheap

As the others said your only limitations are ground clearence. Also, if you get stuck you will need to turn off the TCS & VDC to get moving again.

I have the '04 Touring, so more or less the same car. While I normally store mine in the winter, I once found myself stuck in one inch of snow on the level surface of my driveway with the OEM Bridgestone tires. Without winter tires, I suspect that driving in any snow at all is virtually impossible. Given that you seem fond of your Z, you might find a beater for winter driving for not much more than a set of Blizzaks or similarly-priced snows. As a rule, any tires sized to fit a Z are quite expensive and then there's the mounting and balancing fees twice a year.

Where you at in SLC? I'm out in Sandy?

Anyway, I have an '04 and it's my DD so I'm forced to snow drive it for now. Like everyone says put some good snow tires on. Weight in the back does help push that back end down a little more.

Also, go check out zcarclubofutah.com. All Z/G lovers here and the guys here are all really cool people.

Also, utahnissans.com is pretty active. This is an all Nissan site
