Rather than fighting, I would just raise the car enough to get over the speed bumps without problems. I think you are fighting a battel that you won't win. The home owners association will take the position that you lowered the car and therefore, you can raise it without a problem.

Perhaps one of the members in this thread is a wizard? Came home today and both speed bumps are gone

I'm happy for now, waiting to see if they return. I guess other people did the complaining for me already.

Since there's no clear line separating slammed and not slammed, you have the right to say my car is slammed if you want. But the truth of the matter is, if you lower your car to the same height that mine is at, and then go around telling people about your slammed ride, you're going to look like an idiot (by more than just 1% of the population).

Live with it or,move.
Moving would certainly be an unreasonable solution. Being notified of when they were going on wouldn't really give me any more options as far as avoiding them, but it would at least allow some time to prepare. Like I said, I wasn't out in the Z as they went in out of pure luck. That situation would have then become a spontaneous coilover adjustment on the side of the road in the dark. Not a good scenario to have to deal with. Similarly, as far as they know there are people in my situation that don't have the ability to adjust ride height on their current suspension. Then what? We'd be stuck inside if not for a tow/flat bed. And I'm sure they wouldn't be feeling generous enough to handle that bill.

Ultimately the lack of a warning just highlights a general disregard for courtesy for it's residents by the HOA. But I guess they at least have some level of courtesy seeing that they've taken action in response to the complaints so quickly.

That's wild they are already gone. Now you won't have to scrape a pull. And I'm lowered on coilovers installed by myself as well I know the pain in the *** it is to adjust the height. Was this a home developement or an apartment complex?

The irony of it all is that, at least in my complex, the people who drive like idiots don't slow down for the speed bumps so they are ineffective.

In some areas of the complex, we have wide speed humps and they are much better. I've had some buddies with slammed Zs come over and the speed humps are not an issue.

Private roads owners install speed bumps since enforcement isn’t available. The speed bump(s) should conform to the local laws which typically limit the height to 3” and width to one foot, and require erecting a warning sign and a pavement marker. Some municipalities also require adequate lighting. If a private owner departs from the local municipality requirements, he may be liable for damage or accidents.

Disadvantages to speed bumps:
  • Slower response time of emergency vehicles
  • May divert traffic to parallel residential streets
  • Increased noise and pollution as traffic travels in lower gears, higher RPMs
  • Can cause discomfort for drivers and passengers
  • Drivers are distracted by the bumps, ignoring other hazards such as children
  • Signs, street lighting and white lines are all required and may be visually intrusive
  • Can cause damage to some vehicles

A potential may exist for liability or at least a law suit when a driver damages his car by going over speed bumps.
