Buying a 350 tomorrow..here are my options
Hello everyone! I am about to be a new member of the Z community after a few long years. I'm crossing over from the Mustang crowd and I must say I'm excited. I've done plenty of research (most just lurking on here) and I feel that I have narrowed down the search to just a few candidates.
The first is a 2006 Grand Touring that you can see here
The second is this 2006 Roadster Touring that you can see here
I've looked at a couple already and was very close to purchasing one last night when the top didn't go down all the way. Walked away. My main things were at least the Touring edition with a 6speed preferably black with the orange seats but not required.
What do you guys think about the two choices? What would you pick and why? I've also noticed scratching occurs a lot in the interior, is that fixable?

Neither. 06 rev-ups have oil burning problems, plus they just aren't that great engine performance wise. I'd highly recommend an HR Z '07 or '08. If not, whatevs, but you're gonna be disappointed and looking for more power after about a month and bolt ons wont get you squat with 03-06. Having both a DE and an HR z, the HR is worlds ahead. As for the scratching, you'd need to buy a vinyl paint from an auto parts store and have them painted. All '06-'08 interior are experiencing this.

The 06 Touring...
Great color combo too.SOME 06 cars had oil consumption probs not all.
There is a list of VIN's that can give you info on the potential problem
cars.Later produced models in the year had fixes.Just check it out.
As far as scratches go,there are several option to fix these. It depends on
how particular you are and your budget.IMO,I prefer the coupe. The
roadster just does not have the lines. Some cars make it as a roadster.
The Z just does not look good.

I agree.. SOME HAD OIL PROBLEMS NOT ALL!! Don't get scared out of buying an 06, if you buy it, just keep an eye on the oil guage. Plus, if this car had oil problems, it wouldn't already have 50k+ miles on it, it's probably be scrapped.

Thanks guys! I weirdly haven't come across any 07s in my search for the price. I have read a lot about the oil consumption issue but didn't think it was a major problem in the 06s. Is there a way to tell with the car itself either by inspecting something or paying attention to a detail?

If I had to pick between those two, I'd get the coupe. Roadsters are as nice looking, especially when the top is up
. Also has lower miles. I would have a hard time buying either of those because the interiors are in pretty rough shape. If I were you, I'd probably look around some more and try to find an HR (07+).

Nice color combo though.
That coupe is near enough identical to mine! However if it's a Grand Touring I think it's missing the right wheels? I believe it should have the forged wheels, 18" front 19" rear. It just looks like it's got the standard Touring's wheels?
Re: the interior all the ones I looked at were scratched up too. I got my car a month or so ago and last week resprayed the interior - all black on: the centre console (inc gear surround), cluster, door air vents, and door switch panels. It's not too difficult to take it all off but you will need to put in a little bit of time.

I read the free carfax. This car has had 6 previous owners! It has been involved in at least one accident AND has mileage inconsistencies! I would steer far clear of this one. Also, I think it is a good idea to be concerned about the oil consumption possibility with the manual '06's. I wouldn't want to lay down 16 thousand (plus tax) for a car, even with a squeaky clean record, which this one definitely doesn't have, if it has the oil consumption issue.
If I were you, I would keep looking as there are many beautiful, well maintained Z's on the market. The hunt is half the fun. Your's is out there somewhere, you'll find it.
