Default Which will age better the 350z or 370z?

This was posted on the other forum and I just wanted to see your input;

http://www.*******.com/nissan-370z-g...350z-370z.html

"Hey guys,

Just a random question that I thought would make for a good friendly topic.

Which do you think would personally age better (looks wise) a 350 or 370z?

When the 300zx's came out I'm sure they were gorgeous. IMHO while I still live every Z I think that the Z31 did not age that well. It has a really square 80s style look to it and it is my least favorite Z. On the other hand the Z32 has seemed to defy time with aging and still looks great afer 20 years.

So my question is which do you think will look better 20 years down the road? The 350 or the 370? Only based on looks/ cosmetics. I really like the curvy lines of the 370 but I wonder how well it would age compared to the 350 and Z32 300zx.

It's nothing serious just always a question/ discussion I wanted to have with some Z guys.

EDIT: Also which would be the better car to keep for a long time?"

I thought it was interesting reading the replies, most were bias but a few non z34 owners actually put in a non-bias opinion.

Personally, I believe the 350Z will age much better. It has some really classic flowing sportscar lines that will appeal to true enthusiasts for decades. While I really like the 370Z, it has a bit of a gimmicky/trendy look to me -- the sort of look that usually doesn't do well as it ages (sort of like the earlier Supras) but looks super-hot when it is the current bodystyle. Just my $.02 worth!!

Z33, Z34 is too sharp, and gimmicky as stated above... Nothing will age as good as a 280 however.

Neither will stand the test of time. The body isn't timeless. Both will fall into the "next incarnation of the Z is cool" but neither is the original 240.

Nothing against either. They're cool but not timeless.

They both look great, but I think the 350 will be looked back at as a more important design. The lines of the 370 are so similar to the 350 that I think the 350 will be considered the original. There are lots of examples of how the first iteration is more revered and collectible, and the 350 created a real splash in 03 since the design was so new.

First I'd by a large margin say the 280zx is the worst looking while the 240z/260z is the most timeless all these years later. Z31 is okay but does show its age as it was modernish for the time but does look dated in some areas... done right it still can look good though.

As far as timeless with the late model 350z and 370z models, hard to say. 350z has cleaner lines and is overall less busy which lends itself to aging well - but realistically its hard to say how well designs will hold up over the years. Many of the cars we appreciate so much today weren't always appreciated at the time. The 370 overall is a sharp looking car, while I don't like all of the design touches when viewed as a whole is a very appealing shape.

I wouldn't buy a car based on how the design will be considered timeless 20+ years from now as I won't hold onto a car for that long. Buy want you want now that will reasonably hold up over the span of ownership... And if you want timeless go buy a classic car that is already viewed as timeless, such as the 240z.

Most definitely the 350Z will age better, the sleek streamline roofline is what does it. The 370z's roof is more of a trend and then will eventually fade out of style. Just look at the current Supra, the look is timeless guys. It just flows compared to it's boxier counterparts.

When you say "age" better,I am assuming you mean what is traditionally
called "looks"/design.That saying,the 350,hands down.My background is design.
Nissan did their homework when they penned the 350.Actually,the the chief
designer of the Z concept project,Mamoru Aoki did the work with his team.
When I first saw the Z33,the Audi TT came to mind. The 350 picked up or,
was influenced by that design. The 370 just does not flow as does the 350.
Its not bad.As with the evolution of the 240,Datsun/Nissan tends to do add
ons to the original design. Most times those are not improvements.I do like the
370 Nismo.
The 350 will remain fresh. In a way maybe not as a timeless classic as the E-
Type Jag I owned.I have a frend that has a 03 Track...Redline.Completely
stock...no mods.Those great Track wheels...Everytime I see his car,I just
stand back and marvel how beautiful it is.Here I owned my 03 Touring for
10 years, have done countless mods in the quest of improving on the design
(big bucks spent!),some have worked, some have not. And,I'm looking at
his Track thinking, maybe I should have left mine alone.
Maybe with the next platform,Nissan will start with a fresh sheet of paper as they
did with the Z33.From what I've see with design concepts,I'm not impressed.
You never know.Hopefully they will do a better job than what they did with
the GTR(side view,can we say,Dodge Charger).

I also agree that the 350 will age better. I have Z31 and a Z33 and you can see the difference in style, shape, handling. 370? hmmmm nope 350

IMO the 370Z seemed to try to hard to be different from the 350Z. I have always struggled with the fangs and headlights as it was somewhat ricey from the factory in an attempt to capture that 18-30 year old demographic. Then they toned the look down for 2012/2013 for the older age brackets, but that made me like the fangs of the original design more. Point is that the 370Z seems to have an identity crisis in terms of styling. 09-11 370Z coupes are nice looking, 370Z roadster looks like a flipping miata to me, 370Z Nismo is probably the best of them all.

350Z is more visually neutral imo. Can look classy in its conservative stock form. Allows way more individualism with exterior enhancements, as the 370Z is somewhat more "committed" in its styling. There is so much one can do with the 350Z that there is something fresh to look at. I felt the peak was the HR Nismos, with 370Z Nismo a close second.

I must agree with the 350Z. That design is nice. It's like the 240Z, then the 280Z. Both of those are also nice. I just didn't into the humps and bumps on the 370Z lights, although the rear fenders are a nice adjustment. All in all the 350Z I believe will age better.

I love the both of them, but the Z33 will age better.

My 2003 350Z still gets tons of head turns/complements, with the help of subtle, updated mods. That's when you know it's aging well.

I would say 350. The new Z seems like it has an identity crisis. With the new headlights but bringing back the old window shapes. The fangs. Seems like a good idea on paper but it won't last too long. And I do plan to keep my Z. when that time comes for a new car I might sell it or just keep it and another one.

I'd like to think the 350 is the new 240 of our time. It sets the platform shape for a few future Z generations. The cycle began with the 240 and has closed with the 300zx. The 350 begins a whole new cycle.

I think the z32 will age better than the z33 and z34 anyday. To answer your direct question, the 350 will age better. But in reality IMO nothing will beat the way the 300 looks, that car is just pure sex. Has an old school and new school look to it, when I first saw it I fell in love with it. When my friend bought it and I got to drive it, I fell in love with Z's in general. When I purchased my 350 and drove that, I wished they made a car that looked exactly like the 300 but drove exactly like the 350.
So 300 > 350 > 370
