Default 350z wannabe

Hey all,

I was wondering if you 350z owners could share some of your wisdom to me. If I am looking for a 350z that will be good daily driver and turbocharge candidate, which year and trim model should I look into? Thank you.

Have a great evening,
AC3198

If you want a good build car you can get either engine. There are more options for the de motor than the hr, but the hr engine is more reliable and costs more to mod. The models with the de motors are from 03-06 and the hr motor is 07-08.

Don't forget about the DE RevUp!!!! 2005 Anniversary Ed. and all 2006 models, only in MT of course, 300hp/260lb-ft torque.

I have always heard to stay away from the first couple years of production...

not sure if srs. but mine is an 05 and when I researched the year it had very little issues.

The trim of the car won't matter; all the trims in a given year have the same engine.

I've heard the HR is amazing, but I'm also very happy with my DE. If you decide FI, there is a lot more to it then bolting on a turbo charger and I'm sure you would be happy with either DE or HR.

Every year had some issues - examine any car you are interested in closely, and you'll be fine.

If you're looking for a good DD that you can boost, I would go with another car. Why not go with something turboed from factory? It will save you alot of money in the long run.

If it were me id get the cheapest z i can find with a straight frame. Your gonna have to tear apart the motor anyway to do a turbo build. No need to spend extra $$ on the hr when your putting 6k$+ on a turbo build. Imo De intake looks like a better setup for a single turbo also so 05-06 would be ideal. 03-04 is good too.

I'd go for the most honest (full service history) DE engined Zed, with low mileage, have some fun with it before you make any firm decision as to what you're gonna do with it. Make sure its straight with no accident damage. DE's are cheaper to mod than HR's as the tuning shops have had more time to develop products and iron out any problems. Beware though as a previous op has a pretty expensive horror story by buying a Zed that had been tuned and its costing him $$$ to put it right. See Antlaws entry.
