Default Advice on buying a Z.

So, I'm in the process of selling my rx8. Hopefully i can get at least 13 out of it. My question is, should i take the 13 and just try to get something with under 70k miles, or should i take out a 2-3000 loan and try to get an 07+? Are the new engines really that much better?

Picture of my 8:

what happened to this bro?

https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-n...-2006-rx8.html

and to answer your question, the 07+ engines are better, but they cost more to mod. The 05 and below engines are reliable and have more options to mod them. The 06 auto has the regular de engines like the 05 and below and the 06 manual has the revup engine. this has known oil consumption problems but if you can finsd a reliable one your fine but i still wouldnt chance it.

You don't need to mod the HR, so it's well worth the extra you'll pay to get it.

Post out your long term plans. To me it hasn't been worth parting out my 03 DE to get an 07+ just because I do intend to hang onto it for a long time since it's paid for. Eventually build the block and just continue to replace items as they fail. Maybe even look into a 2JZ swap someday if I really want a big project.

Yes, the HR motors have considerably more hp and a higher redline. An '07-'08 Z33 is worth the extra $ IMO. This is coming from a previous '04 DE and current '08 HR owner.

What they said earlier...
The HR is def' worth it.

Got a Manual 07 and I don't regret it ...

Cause you'll have a dual air intake, some parts will be more expensive for you...
Just bought an Injen Dual Cold Air Intake...
MSPR is $549
For the De Engine, they're round $250...

But do it, it's really worth it...
And the HR Stock Hood is sexy as hell !

Mainly just planning on doing exterior mods..

And I dipped on the guy who wanted to trade, car seemed to sketchy.

I really hope i can sell my 8 soon, I want a Z so bad, so tired of the lack of torque the 8 has. But i will say my rx8 handles like a dream.

I actually love the RX8 and almost bought it instead of a Z, S2000, or the 3.2 Audi tt but the lack of torque is what broke the deal for me. You can always get a supercharger for the RX8 to make up for the lack of low end power and that RX8 will be golden. I really wish they came turbo charged or supercharged from the factory like the RX7 did. The lack of power in the RX8 is it's only flaw in my humble opinion.

I would never buy a DE. Pay more get an HR and you will be set for a while. They also have better internals than the DE, rev higher, output much more power, and most importantly the CD009 transmission. Keep in mind, when the HP ratings were done back when 350z 1st came out, it was before the new SAE standards. So that 287hp isn't quite the same vs the 306hp the HR came with.

If your just planning on exterior mods who cares which Z you get? Just try to stay away from the rev ups with the oil consumption issues. The years aren't much different on the exterior besides a few things like the buldge in the hood, the headlights, taillights, and a different looking front bumper. All the years look good to me and I got my 03 because it was garaged it's whole life since the guy before me got it in 2003 and it never saw snow, rain, and it only had 19,000 miles when I picked it up at the dealership. But that RX8 you have is sick bro, why would you want to get rid of that thing? Get the Z and keep the RX8 lol

I wish I could have both cars that'd be awesome. And I really just want a z because of the lack of power in my car. I feel like a poser driving a sporty looking car that has no real power. And since it's a rotary I'm sure if its going to be as liable as a z and last me as long.

No torque? Problem solved. http://www.rx7store.net/Pettit_Racin...ecal%20kit.htm

You can also get a turbo kit but the above link is pretty good. You got a great car man. I'm actually on the market for an RX8 myself and i'm still going to keep my Z.

Want to buy mine? I do not have the money to buy fi ,get it installed and all that jazz. And really the best power you can really make without an upgraded turbo is 280-300whp max. Why would I spend all that money when I could get a 350z then turbo it and have it 400whp+?

You didn't look at that link I sent you. That kit add can 70 lbs. ft. of torque and up to 80 horsepower for less than 1000 bucks. That will get you into 350Z power territory and solve the non existent low end power problem. And you can do it yourself, no tuning shop required. 1,000 bucks in Z money can only get you a nice exhaust system that can add maybe 10 horsepower.

That's all I could find on that product. I am a very active member of the rx8 community and I've never heard of this, I think if this was what it seemed it'd be much more talked about?
