Default accidents poll: vdc vs. no vdc

i've seen a surprising amount of posts from people who wrecked their z's since i started visiting this forum and it has got me wondering... how many of you who have been in accidents with your z (where the accident was caused by your z's loss of traction) had a VDC-enabled car and had VDC enabled at the time? and vice-versa. vdc not to be confused with tcs. thanks.

All vehicles have vdc. The m6 can turn it off.

That is what I was told. Besides when we opened the dash to install a switch next to my tcs switch, I saw rapped in either red or green tape, the connector for the VDC switch. Surprised the hell outta me. I was thinking of buying the switch from Nissan plugging it in and see if I can turn VDC off.

please tell me you are joking? When they run the wires they run them all together because it is easier. It doesnt mean that you have VDC. VDC is an option on the track, performance, and touring. It is not on the entusiast and base. If it is on, then you cant spin your tires. If you have an enthusiast and you cant spin them in the Z then you should probably just give your keys away because you dont deserve to drive a Z.

Base, Enthusiast, and Roadsters have only TCS not VDC. They do have a switch in the same place.

The VDC system uses a gyro in the center console. If you don't have VDC you are missing the gyro and a module under the hood. (I think).

I wish I had it, but I don't think there is any easy/cheap way to add it.

VDC Is there to prevent the car from going in to a spin

TCS is there to prevent wheel spin

There are harnesses for almost all the features that are options on all the cars, even on the base model.. For most models of cars regardless of brand. It does not mean the feature is present... The computer and/or sensors also need to be there for the feature to work....

Also that connector probably was not for VDC... The VDC computer REPLACES the TCS Computer on the CAN system in our cars so they are not seprate but in the same box when both are present. There is also only one buttion no VDC equiped cars that turns TCS and VDC off at the same time.

I believe it does with the 6MT, the 5AT gets TCS.

this might not be 100% correct

but vdc is tcs plus electronically controled brake force distribution system that help in keeping the car in control

vdc did turn on when i was cut off on the freeway and had swerve to avoid the suv driver who doesn't know how to use mirrors

i could hear the abs in one of the front wheels even though i wasn't braking.

OMG People! this is s funny thread... Anyway, here is the gist

TCS = Something that is humanly possible. TCS monitors the rear wheels, if they spin enough faster than the fronts it cuts the throttle.

VDC = Not humanly possible. VDC monitors the spin of the tires and the yaw angle(sideslip) of the car. When it detects sideways motion, it can independently brake each of the 4 wheels to get the car back to the right attitude.

Thats the difference.

Also, the Base and Enthusiast DO NOT have VDC. I dont beleive the base has TCS either. Both TCS and VDC can be turned off via switches located above the gas door button.

Hope this all helps.

NO. Base does not have TCS. Also Touring automatics have TCS. I don't know about the Roadsters.

Base = no form of traction/stability control
Enthusiast/Touring 5AT = TCS
Performance/Touring 6MT/Track = VDC

Any questions?

ugh... i'm stupid. i totally forgot about the poll feature. i was thinking informal poll. i'd like to start a new thread with a REAL poll and close this one if the mods don't mind.

edit: hmm... for some reason i don't get the little "Post a poll" section when i go to the "New Thread" form from this forum. I get it when I post a new thread from other forums. what am i doing wrong.

I don't want to sound stupid or anything, but is it even possible to add VDC to a NON-VDC equiped Z? And IF you even can, any idea on how much it would cost?
