ECU holds back HP for first 4000 miles.
Look on page EC-133 of FSM for specific value of test fuel trim. You will see that one of the test conditions that must be met is that the vehicle has 3017miles on it. I have also seen this mileage figure in other tests in the FSM. It has to do with fuel trim levels and the other I remember was an ignition timing area. I think if any restriction are in force this would be the mileage number.
Also the harder you drive the car the more the car learns from your driving style and adjust the long term fuel trim value. The long term fuel trim happens long term and is slow (1000 miles), so it would not be a "all the sudden the car has more power" kind of thing. So after the 1200 mile break-in you start driving harder and the car must readjust the long term trim.

Well since I have been added to ignore lists already....not sure who will be reading this.
First, to that [expletive] who said I was lying. I DIDN'T CLAIM ANYTHING. I was only reporting what I was told. I didn't give his name because I did not want to embarass him if the info was incorrect. As it may now be.
I was merely posting what I had been told and also asking if it was true. It was not a statement of fact...[expletive].
Next, I did not make any post saying you get a FREE NISMO suspension if you're tires feather. I had read another post ON THIS BOARD that people were asking about it. One person had claimed "he had heard" it was true.
I threw the statement out there, no matter how ridiculous sounding, to see if it was even close to being true. Again, more a question.
I am a new owner and trying to find out all the info I can. Trying to sort through the BS and fact.

Guess I should behave. I just hate being called a liar.
Jeez guys, get off the guy. He's new here and is probably yet to realize that half of us are pompous tight-wad know-it-alls. While the other half of us would be happy to correct your misinformation and steer you in the right direction.
These engines do seem to get faster when they loosen up some. I believe what has more to do with it is I've learned the car and can make it perform better. At 17k the engine for sure stronger and revs freer...for some reason.
Lets put a logical spin on this:
You buy the car, drive it hard for a few brief times, and you get that natural rush. Time goes by, you get used to the vehicle, and you're left with the same acceleration, but no rush . . . because the novelty wore off, right?
I moderate on the 3G forum (www.neweclipse.org) since I used to own one. I, honestly, never gave any thought to, "Oh, here comes the 5K mark. The other day, I was just hammering on the Z and I, to be honest, was astonished. I used to tell my friends that my eclipse had more whiplashing torque than the Z, but the last week has opened my eyes. I have about 5800 miles. So what does this mean? Who knows. The car is the same, we've experienced sub 30 temps for the past month, so I can reasonably rule out the cold air theory. As for break in . . . I took it easy for 500 miles, then got progressively harder. My driving hasn't changed in the last 4K miles, but I get a rush from driving the beast . . . a rush that I didn't have for the first 4K.
You be the judge . . .

I dynoed my stock Z with only 1000 miles i only had 228.8hp and 227.9 ft lbs, will be dynoing again after injen CAI, japtrix y pipe, rear section, and test pipes at only 3500 miles in about 2 wks
It all sounds crazy, but after about 3,000 and change I did notice my Track had alittle more anger. lol, Maybe cause I just wasn't pushing it as hard all those other times @ WOT but I tell ya what, there was a time when I was like.. 'man, my Z feels slow.' then before ya know it.. put another thousand miles on it and Let her eat and it felt like a whole new car. Not to mention it seems to be consuming more fuel now. 18-19MPG as appose to the 21+ I use to get and my driving hasn't changed. Who knows anymore.. time for a supercharger. lol

That is false there is no limitations to horsepower in the first 4k miles for break in. Think of the law suits. For example you buy your 2004 z car and take it to the local neighborhood dyno, and it is lacking 20 horsepower. That would be considered false advertisement. Get it

In all honestly though, if you ever read those Car and Driver articles with the "long term vehicles" the horespower is higher after like 10k miles. I beleive the engines, with some minor wear, become more efficient. Obviously during break-in there must be additional friction, or they wouldnt have to call it a break in period.

Coincidence?Maybe. But how come I never hit a 5.7 the other 30 times I gtechd? How come I got massive wheelspin ? As stated, weather/temp/tire pressure were the same each run. I'm not saying for sure, but I feel the car got faster the week it ticked over to 5k. I'm a very good driver with drag racing experience.
I wouldnt be so quick to bash the poster. After all, none of you know either way anyway
With our engines totally controlled by computers I guess they could program about anything in them they wanted to.
You would think somthing solid about it would have leaked out of the factory by now though...
