thats the thing, i mean if i had the money i would just trade this car in for another HR, but if i do that im gonna be spending a lot more, plus i want to have extra money for mods. my choices are either keep this car and use the extra money for mods, or buy a HR and dont have extra money just paying the loan off for however many more years.

OP, if you only drive 1000miles a year...why the hell do you care about oil consumption. Even extreme consumption is going to cost you like what? One or two litres of oil a year? Oh noes.
its not the cost of the oil, its the potential engine damage from excessive oil consumption since im going to plan to mod the engine. plenum, test pipes, exhaust, tune.

I bought an '06 new and still drive it daily. Over 130K on the clock. Plenty of mods on it. Sure it has some oil consumption. It's not slowing me down any. Planning to install oil catch can, kinetix racing plenum, exhaust, etc. I say go for it. Just keep up with your maintenance. Do not fear this year car for mods, tracks days, and overall fun. I have not been disappointed.

Then it sounds like you need to confirm and measure your oil consumption. Drive your car more and take consistent dipstick measurements - after 250-500-750-1000 miles / after sitting overnight or after X hours.

+1. Monitor the oil loss, You may be worried for nothing. I'm installing a catch can before snow melts here. Maybe this will help a bit. If not it will look cool in the engine bay. I saw a YouTube vid were the catch can actually fixed a guys G35 from loosing oil. He said it stopped all consumption. Don't know if valid or not, It was on the internet. Lol

Hi everybody!!. I have a 06 350z Touring edition with 135k miles, that was my brother's car he move to Miami 3 months ago and he plan to take his car with hem but that's too expensive to ship it to Miami because this car they're cheaper over there with less miles. My problem is I have the oil consumption problem but it is clean in & out stock is it worth it keeping this car?

should i keep this car and modify it? or sell this car and buy another Z and start all over? maybe 07-08, but going to end up spend more money. its actually hard to find a clean black 07-08 Z in my area.

i really do want to keep this car, and i just was wondering if other 2006 owners have modified their Z, without any problems. thanks for your help guys.
Like others have said, I would start measuring oil levels to see how bad your oil consumption is. I also have a 2006 350z 6spd manual 60k miles (second car and owned for a year now). The oil has been changed every 3k miles since day 1 back in 05 or 06. I feel like the motor is still running strong. I've put 10k miles on it under my ownership but only measured oil levels within the last 3k miles. After 1000 miles with fresh oil my Z hadn't consumed any. After a ~1800 mile round trip (mostly interstate/backroads but very spirited driving) it had consumed 0.25 quarts. That's acceptable in my opinion.

Alot of people complain about the 06's consuming oil but that doesn't mean ALL of them do like the rotary engine in RX8's the VQ is a strong motor, regardless of its flavor

Financially it would be better if i kept the 06. of course if finances werent a problem i would be driving a HR right now.. the car is almost paid off. still havnt put any significant miles on it yet, like 100 miles so far.. weather is sucking here in jersey, lol. But thanks for replying.. this was pertaining mainly for the 06 6mt guys on this forum.

Its good to hear there are other owners out there driving a 06 with no issues, kinda gives me hope to keep this car for future mods.

Just mod the car. You should be checking oil levels and everything else regularly no matter what. If your really sitting asking if you should mod it or not, you shouldn't. If you don't understand the risks of modding the car or understand the oil issue with the Rev Ups its not an area to get into.

Any modding you do to the car changes it. Sometimes more reliable, most of the time less.

I have an '06 Rev-Up 6mt. I have put 20k on it in one year. Nothing has gone wrong with the car and still runs perfectly. Check the oil once a week, once every other week and it will be ok.

The mods have already started. Its not that i dont know what it does to the car with mods... i know im going turbo in the near future. Reliability isnt really the issue since i put less than 1000 miles on the car. Just the potential risk of keeping a oil burner. If its really no big deal, i will continue to mod.

My list so far is Pop Charger, Z tube from Z1, Z1 Test Pipes, Full HKS True Dual Exhaust, Z1 plenum spacer, and uprev will be the 16th of this month. Oil is not a big issue with these light mods.

Turbo is a whole another story though.

What about a catch can for oil consumption it may fix the problem. Somebody try this all ready if it really works which brand works best or just buy a regular oil filter from a air compressor that way you don't spend to much money...

Ihave an 06 too, it does use a little. I am at 82K miles and I have only put on 3K since November. I have a work vehicle so its more of a toy and isn't driven daily. So its not a huge deal.

I have taken off the intake and veered through the throttle body and its bone dry inside so its not the PCV system.

Anywho, I am roughly about 13-1400 miles now since starting my consumption test (and oil change) and less than .5 qt low. Which is better than others I guess. Heck I probably have checked the oil so much and cleaned off the dipstick so many times it probably hasn't helped.

Its something I will keep watching but its still better than my last car that I had with a built motor and Ross Pison/ Rings. Thing had a certain degree of blow by since it was a low comp and built for boost specifically. Blew the oil out the valve covers so a catch can was a must.

I used regular dino stuff since I read it helped some. Anyone have any luck with anyone brand/type in particular?

Any idea about Lucas Oil Stabilizer? Never used it, seems like you would just be as well off with just a heavier weight or something. Some people swear by it though.
