Stupid Base Model VLSD install question
I have an 05 Base model and I recently purchased a VLSD (pumpkin and all). I know this has been covered, but I have a simple short question and I know I have read it in the past, but I can't find it now. I have googled it and searched on this forum but didn't see it.
I have the entire VLSD within its original pumpkin. Now I was under the impression that I can just unbolt my open diff and bolt in this new pumpkin with the VLSD inside. I thought I read that my open diff axles will be fine.
Was I correct that I can use my open diff axels with this VLSD pumpkin, or did I need to buy the VLSD axles?
Thanks and sorry again. I will do a write up when I am finished to hopefully prevent future questions.

Axles fine. If you got a unit without stub axles you would not be able to use yours

As others said, straight swap. Although I highly recommend changing the bushings before the swap. I only did Whiteline inserts but I regret not changing them before installing.

^^ agreed with the other posters. what you are thinking of is swapping the internals in which case you do indeed have to buy new inner axle flanges. this also applies when upgrading a base model diff to a limited slip with aftermarket internals.

Thanks guys. I'm swapping this diff in as a spare and winter diff. This should help me from becoming a one wheel wonder while in the snow. But a spare as I'm getting an OS Giken super lock LSD installed in my open diff.
Now to research diff fluid. I thought I read somewhere about diff fluid that works better than the OEM recommended stuff. To google!

The biggest difference for me is in bad weather. I have SO much more confidence driving in the rain and snow in this car.
