I can't believe I'm going to sink the 10minute into this post ... but who cares ...
cool ... burn the bridges. You might as well show yourself to the door because you will become public enemy #1. No one will help you and you'll be a goat.
we see it a few times per year, every year, like clockwork, someone like you comes to the forum, embarrasses themselves and then hits the bricks (this is why this thread was formed).
This car is my 'toy' car and I will never upgrade to another platform ... and I will probably never buy another sports car. I love the one I have, I just bought another one and I have a nice daily-driver pickup. So 'upgrading' to another platform to 'keep up with the Jones' ' wont happen for me. Just wont...I'm not gonna buy a hellcat, not a corvette, not a mustang ... but this is just me - I'm weird.
Oh dont worry, 370z, Q60, and GTRs are already the next 'civic' people are picking them up for cheap and doing dumb things with them ... it's a life cycle!
If this were true, you'd know that this swap is a dream, go back and re-read your post...
'I wanna HR swap, and since I'm already swapping I might as well put a VHR in it for 30 more horse'
You just said you had all this experience and you were a previous member? get your story straight!
when theyre not a-holes ... plenty of noobs come to this place and join just fine. You're the problem, not us.
jesus you need to go back and re read that. You missed the point. I can’t believe actual enthusiasts are arguing this.
listen again.
i ask... what is the purpose of this thread??
first of all.
I never said you HAD to upgrade to a different platform. I said if you don’t want to deal with newbies asking dumb questions then that might be the move for you (or if you’ll remember I also suggested simply ignoring them as it really doesn’t take much effort). Otherwise it’s just gonna happen and there’s no need to complain about it.
THE point I was making in this whole thing. Was that making a whole thread to state how disappointed you are in people asking dumb questions is not constructive and does nothing to help the community.
you said it yourself “this is a life cycle” I think most of the people here understand this. Is there a need to complain about it? The 350z is a great car for beginners and it’s an awesome way for newbies to get into the car community. Why go out of our way to give them ****? The same thing could have been accomplished in a more mature way by putting up a new sticky reminding members to search. That’s what most forums do. And that’s what I urge mods to do in place of this thread!!!! <There’s the main point
btw the HR swap was never really on the table it was the VHR swap I wanted, to do a high Reving N/A build. Which has been done as everyone knows and I’ve wanted for quite a while. But after getting the info together I decided to go a different way. The VHR was never for 30 extra horse lmao as I explained in that thread, that’s not what I meant, I meant I wanted the VHR as a nice “starting point” for the build. Could have been worded better to be fair. Anyways still may get a swap but It’s on hold for now. Trying to get my hands on an E90 at the moment.
Not all newbs ask dumb questions. This thread is only about the ones who do. I was a newb once and I didn't ask dumb questions. Now, this was before the internet even existed, so asking dumb questions couldn't be done anonymously. I had to ask in person and risk being laughed at, so it behooved me to do some research first.
I thought once in a while i'll peep what the 350z facebook page has going on. I did it twice and that was it. I am no health expert or statistician but you can catch some sort of mental illness browsing those pages. There is a possibility. Also shows that forums like these are a lost art. I had a 3rd gen 4runner in which I was on the forums for several years. It was great! we did meet ups, got to know each other. Followed build threads etc. This was back in 2009 (ish) and I was just getting out of Highschool. Recently I bought a 5th gen 4runner and came back to the same forums but after just being on it a few weeks it was so toxic I just removed myself from that and let the memories of the old days ride with me to the end. I think a lot of products are being pushed so hard now for aftermarket parts that people are just slapping things on. Whoever slaps the most expensive pieces wins (in their minds). I think that along with social media has made online car communities toxic. Its all about getting the next part, the next biggest thing just to snap a few pics and boost ego. I don't like that one bit. I like how a build with a story behind it, a slow build over the years. One that shows how it started, why you got this piece, and understand with each other why that person values that particular piece. Idk i'm just rambling at this point.
I'm on a handful of VQ related forums and it's a sorta scary how bad the 'scene' has gotten ... I'm tied to my car and I take the good with the bad (and just ignore the bad).

Its not limited to the car communities ... dare I say it's ruining the fabric of our society...

I agree with ya … I like seeing how builds start, progress, finish (or don't finish) … I think we have a pretty good group here!
Yeah, there are times I sift through the various FB groups - not just car related - and I have to ask myself, "Where have all the brains gone?" and "Wow, didja really need to be so rude, ya dumazz keyboard jockey?" (And we're not talking politics or religion!)
And classified ads..... what the he*l?
"Hey there, you have the full specs on those wheels?"
"Uhhh, what do you mean, I said they were 5x114."
Oy...... like I want something from someone who hasn't a clue....probably why they're selling in the first place. Got some -30s versus +30s...

I do think we have a pretty good group! Although I wish I was around a bit earlier to see it being more active. I think there is still a ton of useful information you can find in forums. I really appreciate the guys on any car community forums who take the time to do DIY threads and whatnot for the rest of us to use and learn from. Lately I thought about writing some sort of thesis on how social media and the internet has destroyed the car enthusiast of this new generation. I might do it this winter. I think with the new generation, they are not as patience to sit and read through things with horrible trouble-shooting / logical thinking skills.
It truly is a shame. One would think that with the wealth of information (granted you have to sift through the trash) readily available on the internet, people would try to help themselves first before just saying whatever instant thought pops into their mind. In my opinion, the ability to quickly access information available on the internet has actually had the reverse effect and caused people to become more lazy with their need for instant gratification driving them. There is no reward from figuring out the answer through research. I remember the days when you had to call someone to get an answer, or find a book in a library using the Dewey Decimal system or Library of Congress. Social media has had the opposite of effect of bringing people together and I feel like the days of people using their phones to talk to people are coming to an end.

OK - youngish old man rant over.
I hear ya big time on that! I can't blame the folks too much and more of the system surrounding them nowadays. Its like you make things too convenient for people and logical sense just becomes a lost art. I try to understand people and where they are coming from. For example, sure the kid on the 350z facebook page just wants a flame map as his first mod, but thats a product of the environment. You see it all over social media, you see it on the internet. Its a big fad. Its up to you to follow what YOU want (even if its flame maps), but as an enthusiast, try and understand the process, how it works, why it does that, do some research on tuning, GET MULTIPLE THOUGHTS, then conclude your own. I hear a lot of guys saying "oh well this guy said this", yea thats good, but get some thoughts for yourself too, THEN use other peoples research to back up your OWN thoughts . Social media will be the death of our society/mental health. I'm calling it. look at the post date of this in 30 years. Might be getting a little off topic, but eh, needed to rant.
EDIT: young old guy rant (31 years old)

Y'all dudes..... at twice your ages, I get to say it....
My expectations are declined when the highest used threads are these same old threads......
Sad. Not even car related and yet the name of this site indicates it’s as such. What trips me out is it’s the same people in all of these threads arguing. Wonder if any of them even own Zs.....
Good afternoon although I am a newbie to this board and to the 350 Z I have worked on my own cars for the past 40 years or so I will try and as hard as I can not to ask a stupid question I do some research to see if it's already been posted before I ask again looking forward to having a lot of fun driving and modifying my 350 Z
