if your looking at an m6 car...03-04 had bad synchros in the trans. 05-06 has the CD009 trans which is an EXCELLENT transmission with no issues. However, 05-06 models with a manual trans are known for oil consumption. Bought mine at 138k without burning oil then a few thousand miles later I was going through a quart every 300 miles and blowing clouds of smoke. 03-06 auto cars are good to go!

You should just get a nice Z and get familiar with it before you do anything just drive it and have fun, Nissan built this car with plenty of performance and speed right out the box.You sound pretty young just remember if you can't respect the speed your building a death trap get to know your skill level first and realize this car is pretty darn fast stock and learn more about it as you progress and slowly start doing your mods.

I agree with this completely. I have had my Z for 4 months now and spent the first 2 months trying to remember that this has more power than my Spec and getting comfortable with the pick up and go power that it has. But I'm pretty much now more comfortable with it and now having some fun with it on the freeway and tryin to look out for the cops lol. I haven't really added any new mods to my Z yet cuz I just bought it but it already has a cold air intake in it and some other extra stuff in the interior (my spec has a ram air in it). Get to know your Z a little bit, have some fun with it first.

figure most dyno tunes are about $700, results depend on what mods you have, miles on the car, tuner, etc.

like others stated, get the car.... drive it, learn it, get comfortable with it before doing anything

Thanks guys for all the information but I have the choice between two z. One is a 2003 base with 55,000 miles good condition or 2006 110,000 base model I'm assuming the lower miles?

The 06 has the Rev-Up engine which is prone to oil consumption which can be a major headache. The 06 makes a little more HP than the DE (03-05) but less TQ. I'd recommend an 07-08 if possible. They have the HR engine, which makes more power, higher red line, better everything and worth every penny more.

If you're stuck buying 03-06 look for the lowest mileage / best condition and have a mechanic take a look at it before buying.

Notes:
The 05 Anniversary engine has the Rev-Up engine (Ones in the 06)
All exhaust, Y-Pipes are the same.
03-06 Test pipes and HFCs fit the same.
07-08 Test pipes and HFCs fit the same.
In order to get 07-08 on the 03-06 you'd also have to swap the headers or vice versa.
Actually 03 to 05 has the better interior as far as durability goes. Years of abuse and my waterfall and door handles are still perfect. The newer cars you sneeze to close to the plastic and it scratches

Are they both bone stock? And are they priced the same? I would aim at the 03 and plan to add upgrades from 350z's with better factory options like the limited slip differential and probably look for some factory rays. Or anniversary wheels. Im going to guess they probably didnt make it the 12 or 9 years without a little molestation though.

Are these on craigslist or is their a for sale add you can link the masses too? People on this forum love ripping a car apart.

Its probably got some issues for that price. Or a salvaged title. Thats a good price, a little too good. But it's worth checking out, or a phone call.

Then again maybe everything seems like a good price because every car that runs and drives and hasn't disintegrated away here cost 10k

Personally i would get the 03. but if mileage doesn't concern you as much, then have them both inspected and pick the one with better maintenance history.

You will like driving the 08 more than the 03 or 06. Like others have mentioned get the nicest one you can find.
