Default 1st Gear- stiff?

Sometimes it takes me a few attempts to get the gearbox into first gear (6-speed) from a stop...has anyone else had this problem? I've only got 400 miles on the odo, so I'm assuming that the car just needs to broken in a bit more?

Otherwise the gearbox feels like a million bucks....

Hey Ethan,
Did you take pictures of your car in front of the Hyatt in New Brunswick. I saw some pics online and told it might of been yours. I work their and I am still waiting for my CS base from Acme.
Just wondering

Yes, I would say one out of very ten tries I have trouble. I have not figured out what I am doing to cause it to happen. I think I may just be missing the gate. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Default You might be missing

You might be missing the gate. If you have trouble putting into 1st, try putting it into second then put it in to first. I have to do do this to my MR2 when I have trouble.

Good idea- I do that once in a while and it works- hope I won't have to in the long run though...

I think I'm doing that- but maybe I need to be a bit more concious of it... will keep in mind, thanks.

I found that sometimes, it's tough to get into first because I haven't depressed the clutch all the way. The last half inch or so of travel seems important. It also helps if the car is completely stopped. If you're still rolling, even very slowly, it grinds a little going into first.

Try letting the clutch out in neutral then pushing it in and shifting into first. Sometimes this happens to me in my aunts car it just has to deal with the shaft inside spinning at the right speed or something.

I sometimes have this trouble too. Although, I think it is getting easier. I picked it up yesterday (11 miles on it) and drove it 160 more. This morning it seemed easier to slide in there.

Although, I will agree, the last 1/2 - 1 inch of clutch travel is of upmost importance. The clutch engages VERY soon. Caught me off gaurd yesterday because the manual cars I've learned in and driven had much high engagement points (almost all the way out).
