Default Best short shifter and is it worth it???

Hi All,

I'm looking at doing some driver feel mods and wondered if a short shifter is worth it, i have looked at a few including the tarmac sports one which looks like good value? Or would money be better spent elsewhere

Just wondered what everyone opinion on this was

Thanks in advance

No. TBH you're much better staying stock.

But if anything, my buddy had installed a Rogue in his Z. Loved how it felt, but not enough to warrant getting one.

Would you suggest spending money elsewhere on the car? i have already got an RJM clutch pedal, braided lines, an intake and some cosmetic components, i am just unsure what area to look at next

Tighten the drive line up - inc short shift imho.
Diff brace (Bell Raceworks), diff bushings, vibra-technics engine mounts and gearbox mount.
I have the Torque Solutions short shifter (it's excellent 1 piece, don't get a 2 piece SS if you want one), and Bell Raceworks (like the diff brace) have a v2 short shifter coming.

Some people like short shifters on the Z, some don't. I love my one, the bearing in the bottom of it made a gigantic difference for positive feeling. It feels similar to a 997 GT3 I borrowed for a while.

So do all these 'short shifters' really reduce the lever's throw other than by having in effect a cut down lever at the top? Because as far as I can tell the distance from the bottom bush to the pivot point remains the same on all of them and that is the crucial distance. If that distance does remain the same then meh, what is the difference, what do you get for your money?

You won't realize any benefit installing a "short shifter" because the stock shifter is excellent.

I'm sorry but you're slightly wrong in one sense.
I did benefit because the nylon piece in the bottom gets worn out, granted if you like that throw, change it out after a few years.

260DET, when I do a track day up north, and if you're around - just come and try my car out.
The difference in feel is huge.

Yes the Torque Solutions shifter does get good reports but not so much for a street Z, it's supposed to be tight and precise, is that what you've found? I'm thinking of putting a 100 mm extension on to bring it closer to the steering wheel.

Bit too far to go to try yours LOL.

Ah, it said Yorkshire earlier, yes Australia a little far !

I did use the car on the street when I fitted it, yes it makes the shifting feeling tighter, and slightly shorter in throw. For the price, time taken to fit and try - I'd recommend it. If you don't like it I'm sure you've got plenty of others out there with Z's.
The whole drive-line on the car can be tightened up a hell of a lot with the suggestions I made (without increasing NVH much, especially if you use vibra-technics 'road' mounts).

Just replaced my 2003's transmission with a CD00A model, and replaced the clutch assembly and replaced the dual weight flywheel with a single weight flywheel. The performance difference is HUGE. Shifting is smooth and fast. I don't need to "blip" (to increase engine speed) when down shifting, and upshifting is so much better. The only downside is more noise when running a single mass flywheel.

I think the coolerworx one is cool and worth considering. They have an instagram page and zora_the_z33 seems to like his.
