Swap guys- Buy a broke down 04 CTS-V for a LS6 swap to my 04 Z? Need input.
I have always wanted do an LS swap in my 2004 5AT. I have a friend selling a clean 2004 CTS-V with a LS6 with a spun bearing and the Tremec T56 6MT. I have a couple ways I am thinking about approaching this. I could buy the Caddy, have the motor rebuilt locally, and go over the Caddy to flip it and use the proceeds to fund the Z swap in another way, Or I could buy the Caddy, pull the motor and trans and clean up the car to sell as a roller for a little less than I paid for it. The Caddy is a clean car, nice interior, new exhaust etc. I've also read that the Brembos can be adapted to the Z, which would be a plus. The swap would be done by Sikky Manufacturing which is local to me. Considering the need to rebuild the motor, all the labor, kits, accessory parts, etc, what do you think the most cost efficient route would be to do this? How much can I use from the CTS-V?
EDIT: What is this random HTML coding that I cannot get rid of?
Phreak, honestly, I'd check in with Sikky if they're going to do the swap - particularly regarding what's usable from the Caddy. I would tend to think that the only "swappables" would be engine, trans, ECU, wiring harness (and I don't think that harness applies because Sikky offers a wiring harness of sorts (maybe to adapt to the Z wiring, not sure).
Another issue is the rebuild cost. Pulling and rebuilding the existing LS might make it cost prohibitive (or just not make sense) given the degree of any internal damage and just the cost of P&L overall. Hard pressed to even delve into a cost analysis without opening the motor. Until then, don't know if the crank/rods are reusable or if there's any valvetrain or cylinder damage to mention just a couple of possibles.
NOT trying to talk you out of it because an LSX in a Z is exciting. But as a person who's done a number of swaps (pre-LS V8s and assisted on a 6-to-4 S30) back in the day (various types/makes of cars), I know that a "back of napkin calculation" on what's needed to do a swap is a baseline.... and then you multiply that cost by 1.5+ to get actual cost to produce. Hahahaha.

I was able to do a Mod edit and remove the code but it'd be nice to know where it came from. I'm thinking it *might* be related to your .sig file. (Why it would be, I do not know. Just a hunch.) Try changing (removing temporarily) that and re-posting. If that works then re-edit your signature file and try again.
Thanks for the response. Yeah after talking to a few guys in the LS world, I will stay away from the $4500 CTS-V and shop for a donor while I get the ball rolling on other components of the build.

Now I am REALLY confused. Watch this screen recording of me trying to completely delete my sig. Even when completely deleted, the junk HTML comes back. I literally don't even have a signature now and it is still there.
