Default Tires?

Looking for sport/summer tire recommendations for stock wheels. What have you had best experience with?

My perspective is from high performance street/hills driving in most dry, sometimes cold 40°, sometimes wet conditions. No track use. Take that for what its worth.

You won't go wrong with any of the Max Performance grades on Tirerack.com You're limited by width, so you'll be fine with any of the top grade Michelin, Conti, and at the less expensive end of that spectrum, I particularly like the Kumho Ecsta PS91, very quiet and responsive.. Others have mentioned Firestone Indy 500s (UHP graded not Max but for the street, should be fine), no personal experience but they seem to get good reviews.

It all comes down to your conditions (how you drive, where you drive, etc) and budget. If you need wet performance, look at an A/S performance grade. Snow, forget any of these. Haha.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports (MPSS) are my favorite, but I have to admit, I don't have a lot of tire experience outside of Bridgestone and Michelins. I'm sure there are other options out there, but based on reviews, research, ratings, etc....MPSS seem to be the best in class summer tire for a daily driver.

.
Great for 45+ degrees driving. Very dangerous for colder weather or wet driving. (Accident)

The PS4S is like one of THE best tires for rain so I fail to understand this comment, cold sure, but I never felt at danger while driving at temps near freezing. That feels like driver error.

Living in CA SF-Bay, extreme cold/wet weather is the exception, not the norm. Even so, the MPSS have excellent wet weather ratings, but I can't find good data on cold weather ratings. The Pilot Sport All Season 4 (different from the MPS4s Trav is talking about) are superior in wet/cold/snow weather. I may grab a set for my Z's spare wheels, but I don't daily the Z anymore and I would prefer to limit it's time in the rain during the winter months, so not a priority. I run the AS4s on my wife's 08 Acura RDX. They are superb when combined with the agile chassis of the RDX, All-Wheel-Drive, and turbo! This is the family car for occasional trips into Tahoe during the winter, the car feels planted/solid even in snowy/wet conditions. I've tried to get the wheels to slip on purpose and the AWD system immediately counters. Honda did it right with this model.

Here in the east. . . .Atlanta Motorsports Park has a WET AREA where you can tryout your tires, and truly see how they react.
.
The Pilot Sport Cup 2 R is Michelin's Streetable Track & Competition tire developed for the drivers of supercars and sports cars who want to maximize their vehicle's performance and reduce lap times. The Pilot Sport Cup 2 R is highly-tuned to enhance the capability of the specific vehicles it was homologated for, so it may only be sold for use in those applications. Since it is designed to help drivers realize their car's full potential in dry conditions, the Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, like all Streetable Track & Competition tires, is not intended to be used, stored, moved nor shipped in near- or below-freezing temperatures.

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 R utilizes a tread compound taken directly from Michelin's motorsport tires for enhanced grip during acceleration, braking and cornering. This high-traction compound is molded into an updated, asymmetric pattern with reduced void area to improve grip in dry conditions. The massive, outboard shoulder features fewer lateral notches, and the tire's circumferential grooves are narrower, creating wider tread ribs for more rubber in the contact patch. The inner shoulder is focused on wet traction, with deep, lateral notches to evacuate water from the footprint. Even so, while Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires meet DOT requirements, they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions.
