Default Camshaft Position Sensor Troubles P0340 and P0345

Hey guys,

I’ve been searching the forums and various videos on YouTube and still can’t seem to fix this problem.

I have a 2005 Nissan 350z (DE ENGINE) with 141k miles, I mainly use this car to commute to college an hour a day. Was commuting to school and my car randomly shut off on the road, scanned it and had a P0340 Code for the Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1 (Passenger Side). This is the first time my car has ever had any engine trouble. The car runs and starts, however the car now takes awhile to crank. It usually would just start with no issue/cranking.

Things I have tried:
• Replacing the Bank 1 (Passenger) Sensor with a Hitachi Sensor.
Result: Check Engine Light Reappears after resetting ECU / erasing code. Code P0340

• Replacing the Bank 1 (Passenger) Sensor with a OEM Import Direct sensor.
Result: Check Engine Light Reappears after resetting ECU / erasing code. Code P0340

• Replacing the Bank 2 (Drivers) Sensor with a OEM Import Direct sensor
Result: Check Engine Light Reappears after resetting ECU / erasing code.
Code P0340 and P0345

Other than all the lights and long starting, the car seems to run okay.

Is there something else I should try replacing? Maybe get a tuneup/replace my sparkplugs, or even my CRANKSHAFT sensor? I’m really lost here and don’t know what to do. Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Hi OP,

I think you already answered your own question. When this starts to happen, it's best to replace all CAM position sensors and the CRANK sensor at the same time. Always use new OEM parts and be very careful about where you source them. In this scenario I would purchase directly from an online Nissan dealer, CZP, or Z1. Do not trust Amazon or Ebay listings. After sensors are installed, I would clear the codes and go driving. If the problem comes back, there's a chance something else is at fault like excessive timing chain wear or a wiring fault.

The majority of the time though, replacing both cam and the crank sensor resolves this issue.
Good Luck!
