Default poor gas milage.

I've had my Z since last July and I get really poor milage. I get barely 300 miles on a tank. Sometimes not even that much. And I typically drive about 30 miles after the light comes on.

Is there something wrong with my car? I drive mostly on the freeway and sometimes there is traffic during rush hours but it's mostly clear. 300 miles on a 20 gallon tank is only 15MPG.

What are you guys getting?

oh BTW, I drive an automatic and mostly leave it in standard.

I just got mine recently, I think I had high 17's on the first tank and mid 18's on the second.

I don't use the electronic MPG thing, I just remember how many miles I have each time I fill up. I usually fill it up all the way (top it off a little), and drive til it's 30-40 miles after the light comes on. It's usually around 300 miles.

the general method for calculating your mileage is fill up, record # on odometer, then the next time you fill up, record the exact amount you put in, record your odometer again. divide the number of miles between fillups over the amount of gas you just put in. your tank has about 3 or more gallons in it when the needle reaches empty, depending on the car.

by the way, there was a thread about this awhile back and the general consensus (from people who used the method i just described) was that the car's computer mileage calculator is reasonably accurate. like within 10% or so.

I'm getting about 19-21 mpg on my 6MT. You probably reviving it too much. Keep the rpm below 3.5 to get the most out of normal driving.

You're probably not accounting for the fact that you're not putting 20 gallons of gas in the car. It's probably more like 17 to 18....So 300 miles on 17 gallons of gas is 17.65 MPG. That's not too bad, especially if you've got a heavy right foot. The weight of your right foot plays a BIG part in the mileage you get. Try making a conscious effort to drive like a lil' old lady for a tank of gas and see what numbers you get. I think you'll be surprised.

I get mid 20's on my city/interstate commute to work.

I've gotten well into the upper 20's on long distance trips...

I took a 320 mile trip a few weeks ago and I had well over 1/3 a tank of gas left. The key is to be gentle and not going over 3500 or so rpms.

Yes do a calculation with how much gallons you put in and your odometer reading..it's more accurate then the digital tach.

Driving of the eway 23.
Driving like an old lady 26 on eway.

I wonder how much air your running in your tires?? Under inflated tires will cause your gas mileage to suffer. I run between 34-36 PSI and I've gotten well over 26 MPG on a 425 mile highway trip. I also have all my original tires with close to 20,000 miles on the car! No sign of feathering here.. The trip computer showed as high as 30.6 MPG for a portion of the trip. Everyone's driving habits are going to be different. I did notice poor MPG during the winter when the car ran richer due to the cold weather.
