Default Startup Engine Noise

I get some noise in the engine on startup. It only lasts for 1-2 seconds and generally happens more when the engine is cold. The dealer tells me this is normal and is not a defects. I am less convinced. I'm no mechanic but it's like the oil hasn't circulated for a couple seconds. That can't be good. It goes away within a couple seconds and everything is then okay.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is this noise typical to this engine?

My concern was poor oil distribution causing the initial startup noise. That could be the sign of a long term problem. I'm going to tape it and bring it to my dealer. Otherwise they deny it happens.

Actually I do. If you aren't going to add anything to the discussion, please stay out of it.

It might be your clutch rattling or something. keep your foot on the clutch the next time and see if you hear it.

You are probably listening to the lifters ratteling until oil pressure builds in the engine. This is "normal," but there are those who use pre-oilers to build pressure, so that their engines do not see "dry starts." I have looked into installing/building my own pre-oiler as I don't like the idea of having my engine run for 10 seconds or so without being completely lubricated. The add on systems seem either expensive or awkward. I was thinking about a switch to kill the ignition, but still let the motor turn over. This way it would build some pressure before you lit the flame

It shouldn't take that long for the oil pressure to build up. That is usually the case when you add know lifters. This shouldn't be happening in a new 2004 car.
