I finally got my new Z today!
After browsing various forums for two years about this car, I took the plunge and brought home a new 2004.5 Redline Enthusiast 6spd, with chrome 17's and a Mossy Performance grill. All I need now is tint. What a beautiful car. I got a great deal too.
With all the really crappy dealerships local in Los Angeles that only carry shades of silver, and most of those automatics. I drove 100 miles to Mossy Nissan in Oceanside, CA. I never had a better car buying experience. They really took care of me. First off, there is no wheeling and dealing there. The car came fully loaded with $1000 off MSRP to start. Which was acceptable to me. I sat down in a nice airy room with the ocean breeze blowing through and worked with a great guy that pushed absolutely nothing on me. In fact, with some 'questionable' items on my credit report, and a 5 yr 'gold preferred' warranty, I was able to get a rate that was quite acceptable. Getting the extended warranty dropped the rate an entire percentage point. So in essence, I was getting 2 extra years bumper-to-bumper for about $500.
There was even a list of 'extras' that I could add on that most other dealers didn't have. They had the chrome rims, a few spoiler packages, leather option, grills, and a few other interesting items. I opted for the chrome and a grill for a unique look. Redline without chrome looks bland IMO. My only quip is that I wasn't able to add tint for "legal reasons". So I'll need to go do that tomorrow. Katzkin leather will be in the near future.
I'm very happy with the car. In fact, I want to kick myself for even thinking of getting another color now. Redline was my first choice and I was put off by seeing dirty ones with stock rims. There are very few Redline's here in LA.
The drive home was bliss. The stock stereo isn't nearly as bad as everyone said it is. Plenty of bass and good high end. It does lack just a bit in midrange. I think some real speakers will fix that. Especially the rears. They just suck. Low-end torque is amazing. Unlike all the other manual cars I owned, this one doesn't require mega shifting in traffic. It's actually quite smooth. I think the hard part is being careful during the break-in. With the windows up and stereo on, you can easily not notice you are cruising at 4k rpm.
Well that is my banter, and now I'm 'officially' a member of the 350Z club. This is my 3rd Z car, and the best so far. I'll be posting pics in a 'humorous' fashion sometime in the near future. For now, its time to go cruise!

BTW Jetpilot - Black was my 2nd choice. After seeing how many spider webs were in the paint after 10k on some used 2003's, and the excessive 100+ temps we have here in the summer, I opted out. 10 coats of Zymol per month isn't my idea of fun.

Congrats.
You should check out the SoCal Forum. A few dozen of us get together about once a month for meets and canyon drives.
Lots of fun. Many of us are members of 3FiveZeroZ
the local Z crew. Lots of fun testing your Z in the Twisties of
the Canyons.
