Rice?

Rice?
I'm fairly new to this game so am not up on all the inside lingo. One term that I say often used is to describe someone's car as "rice". What is meant by that term and what charactderistics make one car "rice" and another not?

Ricing can be either good or bad. Some "rice rockets", for example, are nastily modified 89 hatchback civics with cheap body kits that are unpainted, seems like they juss threw random body parts at the car, and they prolly have some 40 dollar exhaust that from far away you think its really fast from that loud a$$ sound but then when u look at it, it just seems like a slug. But there is also a good part to rice cars; some actually look decent, either a 350Z with some nice wheels, a body kit, maybe a wing, possibly some stickers, or just take one of those highly "riced" vehicles from Hot Import Nights. A "riced" vehicle basically means a Japanese car thats modified quite a bit.

If the term refers to a Japanese car that is highly modified what is the term for a similar German car?? An American car?? If there isn 't one then it smacks of a racist term since it's used only when referring to a Japanese car.

Im planning to put a huge sticker of a single grain of rice on the side of my Z. Its expensive though but the horsepower gains from it will be well worth it

For me a "riced" out car is one where money is spent to make it look fast instead of go fast....
There is a difference between some slight cosmetics to make your car look how you want, and a big huge hanglider sitting on the rear.

It's really a universal term for me. I might call a stupidly modified mustang with bigazz wing domestic rice. Haven't really seen many German cars "riced" out, but if I did, I suppose there's alway Deutcher Reis.

the way i define rice, and i think its a good definition, is a car that you can tell the owner really half assed the job(visually) and didnt really care what they were doing they just threw somehting on there that they thought looked "cool". sounds subjective but you can tell. also a car that doesnt have the "go" to back up the "show". neon wipers, huge wings, fart can exhausts, excessive chrome etc etc. Usually i judge a car by the fit and finish of the aftermarket stuff. if i can tell theres been some care and effort into whats on the car even if its a little outrageous for my likings i generally respect it. if it looks half assed its rice. American riced cars are called domestic rice. i wouldnt consider a Z with nice rims rice. Rice has become generally a negative term.

I believe Masterfulks is right.
A few of my friends are hardcore Honda tuners, one guy has a close to 300 horse Civic. They tell me it`s a guy who dumps a bunch of money into cosmetic stuff for his car, giant wing, body kit, way to loud stereo, those dumb underbody glowing lights, but the motor is pretty much stock.
All show, no go. Thats a ricer.

Basically to me it means mods for "show" rather than "go", but usually there has to be a little bit of ineptitude towards the execution or at least some very bad taste in the mods.
I've heard people call german cars "kraut", but it's all rice to me.
Let me also say however, that even on real crappy looking cars, I'm glad to see people show some enthusiasm about their vehicle. Even if they did a totally junk job (IMO), at least they took the time to do some personalization, and so I give them some respect for that.

So, let me see if I understand the term "rice". It can be a noun such as in "That car is a ricer". It could be an adjective like in, "It was a rice rocket that smoked me!", Or it could be used as a verb as in, "He riced his car with that rear foil." It usually is used in derogatory and negative way but could also be used with a positive connotation. It seems that the term rice then is like the good old English word "f..." and one man's rice could be another man's meat!
