Final Stats
I have heard some magic numbers floating around the past few days, from various sources that I cannot name. These numbers were not the same 0-60 in 5.2 that I had heard and they were also not the 300 HP that I'd heard so I was reluctant to believe them.
Now the time has come though, that I have to make a choice as to whether to discolose those numbers earlier than July 3rd or not.
See, I have heard the following things... HP, Torque, Weight, Weight distribution, Compression ratio, Bore stroke, even a tested 0-60 time that is in fact lower than the one earlier recorded at 5.8. I should say, earlier stated at 5.8. (not proven until issue is on stands)
I don't want to **** on Nissan's parade though. They have a embargo in place until July 3rd and they have something special planned for those of us that have ordered the car already with a depoit in place.
So what do I do? haha
I know a great deal of you are going to post that I should just post the info I have. Others might ask that I hold of. Thus far, Nissan has not asked me to hold off but then again, they haven't asked me to post the info either. (haha)
I am on their media list so I am expecting a media release kit shortly, but again, just because I am on a list doesn't mean I'll get anything. Again, time will tell.
I will tell you this though.... I was wrong.
My source out of the orient was very close in the numbers but the 0-60 is not 5.2. I don't know if the car that Takahashi (my souce overseas that works with Nissan Japan) spoke of was tooled differently or if it had something to do with the grade of gas or the alttitude abpve sea level of where the car was tested. All of these play into the equation, but not so much as there would be a huge difference. There is not a huge difference between the 5.2 I reported and the numbers I am hearing now, but yes, there is a difference.
I suspect there are a handful of readers of this site that know the info I am speaking of and everyone has been very good about not posting the numbers. I think it's a case of nobody wants to be the bad guy. haha
Enough dramatics.
Alright, at the risk of being the bad guy, I have done everything I can to deliver you the news when it happened. I guess I wouldn't be being true to you, my fellow Z freaks if I didn't speak up and let you in on the info I know.
Here goes nothing.
Horsepower is listed at 287 @ 6200 RPM
Torque is listed at 274 @ 4800 RPM
Weight is listed at 3188 lbs
There is a 53/47 weight distribution.
The compression ratio is 10.3:1
The bore X stroke is 95.5mm X 81.4
The 0-60 has been tested and confirmed at 5.5 seconds.
Don't shoot the messenger, but after having three seperate people that don't know each other email me these EXACT numbers, claiming the EXACT same source, a Nissan press kit given to the magazines to write the articles regarding the 350Z. I have to believe they are authentic.
Keeping in mind again that Nissan released stats on the Sentra SE-R and when Motor Trend tested the car, the chopped something like .7 off the Nissan time. (which if done again would have out 350Z sitting under the 5.5 second time)
So there ya have it.
Flame me for breaking the silence if needed.

Thanks Jmanz.. Its nice to finally have all the information. Since NNA knew the information they really should have released it by now to pre-order people anyway. Don't feel bad at all for posting it. Damn I love this forum and if anyone was going to have it early I knew it would be you! I had hoped the HP would be closer to 300 but honestly I figured it would be 285-290 (still impressive for this price range). And with the 6-speed running 5.5's that is very quick. With some mods this thing is going to be scary fast. Thanks for looking out for your Z brothers and sisters!

If the track is 3188 lbs would it be reasonable for the performance model to be around 3200 or are the forged wheels saving even more weight than that? How much slower in 0-60 would the performance model run than the track?

the weight between the performance and the track shouldn't be much different from each other... if so, just a few lbs... nothing to worry about... 0-60 should be the same... the lighter rims help the track, however the extra's on the track may make up for the lighter rims...

In all honesty, I am *hoping* the numbers Nissan release are a little higher hp and lower 0-60 time wise, but these are the numbers I was told they are giving out to the media.
This doesn't change though, that I had heard from several souces the 300 number so maybe it's 300 HP at the engine but 287 at the wheels.... I don't know.
You'll know the second I do, unless that is, someone else posts it first.

I've been thinking about which hp # would be released too (wheels vs. crank), the whole insurance reasoning etc. Would they give the # at the wheels so it could be easily reproducable?
Time will tell. Now it's time to get back to the World Cup, half time's over. Still 1-0.

Well I appreciate the info Jay. And I hope they don't give you are hard time for sharing the knowledge.
I can't say I am let down at all. I of course would like to see more HP, but who wouldn't?
In the final analysis 287 is great. All Nissan said was 280+ and that could have been 281-286, so 287 is that much sweeter.
And I think 5.5 is very respectable, I would have thought it would be lower...but what the hell do I know. I've just been spoiled by my current car. And for a car that is over $20k less than what I am driving now to be just a bit over a .5 sec slower in 0-60...not bad at all.

I don't think we need to worry about the HP number too much. A 0-60 of 5.5 is still very good for being stock and with a few modifications it can be even quicker. I would rather have the car at 287 HP with 3188 lbs rather than 300 HP with 3300 lbs. Most of the people who are addicted to this car like me will end up modding it anway and get over 300 HP easily with the car still around 3200 lbs. Considering NNA first told us 260+ HP I think ending up at 287 is about what we should have expected.

I can still hope thats at the wheels.
That would mean the crank is getting 15 percent more....
Thanks jmanz for not holding back.
Zisme is sure to confirm or deny this.

I just had a thought....hey, it could happen!
Anyways, my thought is this...is Jay holding back?
Perhaps he is giving us false numbers knowing that the real numbers, the official ones will be much better?
Just a thought...not trying to stoke the fires of discontent.

I hate being the voice of reason when everyone is so excited, but I have to tell everyone not to count their chickens before they hatch. Of course, Jman was very cautious in stating what he has HEARD from RELIABLE sources and unfortunately I can't comment on what I do and don't know.
However, what I can tell you is that we are STILL in testing stages and the car is still undergoing review (as with most cars there are usually 3-5 different revisions of the prototypes that run through testing before it's officially set for production). Now that time is VERY close and they are not yet to that last stage from what I know. That being said, there are still cars putting down numbers with various magazines (Sport Compact Car had one this weekend and others have cars as well). Why is this? Because they have to give them a car (even if ahead of final specs) so that SOMETHING can be written about the car the very same time it's released. I would assume there are STRICT restrictions in what can and can't be said by the magazine since the car isn't final. Nissan or any other car company wouldn't give a car to a magazine unless they agreed not to touch specifically on areas that are "not finalized". That data will come a bit later.
Now, since they are not done configuring, there are many things than can change though overall they should be minor. Perhaps rearranging of a few parts, material changes, changing of a suspension part or two, etc. Mostly sublte things. However, such things as the particular fuel/timing map that's programmed into the ECU can change up until the last minute depending upon final data. In engligh: Horsepower/Torque/Weight/Etc can all change from these numbers. However, they SHOULD be in the ballpark based on what is already public. It's not like they are going to spring a new cam on us or a supercharger by release. I think either way, the car is going to do quite well...but reminding you once again not to shoot the messenger (JMan) since his "source" can only go on what they know at the MOMENT.
Enjoy the Ride

Well... if what you're saying is true, and it would stand to reason that it could be, maybe the stats I had been told originally will be the final numbers. I won't feel so bad then... haha (not that I feel bad now that is)
