Feeling Guilty
So I was on my way home today and a riced out Civic starts to Rev at me like crazy. The little kid with the dragon-ball hair cut and all begins to taunt me!!! That little !@#$ So what was I suppose to do? My car has just over 300 miles on it and I did the unthinkable... I floored my car before the "break-in" period. Am I going to Hell?
Don't worry about it... I think break-in is a myth. First time I raced my car was around the 500 mile period... and I'd go full throttle up to 3rd gear every once in a while after that (deserted road, in case you internet police are wondering). My car feels stronger than ever at 6.5k miles.
Thanks Guys, I feel a little better. This is just a totally new experience for me. My previous car was a 99 4-Runner, which is the total opposite of my Z. I love this car to death.

If you read the book carefully - there is nothing said about top speed under the 1200 mile break in. It says "not too fast or too slow for slow periods of time" (something to that effect).
It says nothing about invalidating the warranty at at XXX miles per hour.
Am I not correct?
I havent abused mine (4.5 months) , neither have I babied it! I had a new 1990 300 ZX and had it to 125 a couple times! Was racing a merceds part way from Casa Grande ( and beat him well too! )

I always purchased brand new cars.
I've done this 6 times.
I firmly believe that performing a break in routine is BS.
I have taken this to the extreme test.
It is BS !!!!!!

Thier is a guy who actually did this test with motorcycle engines and found that an agressive (not extreme!) first 1500 miles are better for the engine. He showed pictures of babied and his method breakins and his method always looked much better. Im too lazy to try and find it though....
One time won't hurt. Just don't do it again. I honestly think 300 miles is a good enough break-in from the way my car sounded and felt at that point. Of course I drove the 2nd 200 miles in gridlock (4000 each gear every time). Wait until the book valued 1200 mile break-in and take it to 6600 rpm constantly like I did then you won't have to feel bad at all
. It's like meeting God...well close enough. lol

if the engine was warmed up, if you did it only once it's not a big deal.
Personaly I'd follow the break-in procedure. It doesn't cost you anything, and there is no reason why not to thrust nissan engineers about it. Have a little patience
