Default Help! Extreme oil use

I have a coupe. I put Mobile 1 in it. My local service station told me to change it after 7,000 miles. The car completely ran out of oil after 6,000. I've searched the forum and found that some have had their VQ engines replaced due to high oil consumption. Can I please have more information regarding this. For example, was there a specific consumtion threshold, e.g., more than X amount consumed per X miles, that was key to Nissans decision to replace the engine. Also, how long did the dealership monitor oil consumption before Nissan determined that the engine was defective? Lastly, has anyone had any problems getting Nissan to replace the engine or exchange their car if oil consumption was high? Thanks

you are burning oil it sounds like... one rare problem that the VQ35 on the Z is experiencing...

Take it to a dealer, have them do an oil consumption test... say hello to your new motor...

hmmm I changed mine after 3k miles and about a 1/4 of a quart had been burned off; is this a good average consumption?

That very normal. It's common during the break-in period for the car to burn excess oil wihle the piston rings seat.

I was well past the break-in period when this happend. The best information I have indicates that it is a problem with the engine. Nissian apparently has many such complaints pending and has replaced engines for excessive oil burning.

Default Me too

i am at 6k miles. jiffy lube did the first oil change at about 3k. i switched to synthetic at that point. i did the 2nd oil change myself at about 6k and glad i didn't wait longer. i was left with barely 3 quarts of oil. the car is going in for inspection at tustin nissan this friday.

this is the first problem i have had with the car. i hope they dont have to replace the engine. anyone try getting the dealer to give you a new car instead?

I'm not trying to hate, but you guys should seriously be checking your oil levels every other time you fill the gas tank.

IIRC, it seems that the bulk of people that experience oil consumption problems are running synthetic... not sure where the correlation would be if this was true, but just a note....

lol werd, its hard to read off the oilstick cause by the time you actually get it out, most of the oil has dripped down or it rubbed off on parts of the engine bay.
