Werd, next time you think your key sucks, take a winding road somewhere. You'll realize whats truly important then.

Regardless of how it looks, it could be more convenient. My Lexus key has the buttons built in. That way I can use any fob I want, or none. My wife likes to use a leather key wallet. No room for the fob, so she just doesn’t carry the Z key. Hey, maybe that’s a good thing!

Default 350z

The Key does have a chip in it. Without the chip the car wont start. I went to the dealership the other day and was wanting to just get an extra spare key and they said its around $100 just for the key and another $30 for programming it. That stupid. $130 for a key? So I just got them to make me a steel key just so I could unlock the door incase I lock my keys inside the door, but the steel key wont crank the car. They said that if I tried to start the car without the chip key the car would go into lockdown mode or something.

The chip doesn't have to be in the key you use to start the car. The chip just needs to be close enough to the receiver to read it. Some people (like the ones who have remote start) tape their original key somewhere inside their dash. The only problem with this is that it defeats the security purpose of the chip.
