They don't put synthetics in from the plant as far as I know. It is better to allow the rings to seat with dino oil for awhile, then switch to synthetics later.

I read that the traditional stuff is best for something like
10,000 miles. After that, synthetic. (That's my plan.)

I've always switched over after 2-3K myself, and never had problems with the car burning oil because the rings weren't seated.

In regard to contaminants from the factory, that isn't the concern. The concern is initial wear in the engine loosening metal shavings from wear points, etc.

Is the factory drain plug magnetized to pick up these metal shavings? If it's not, I'd really like to either magnetize mine, or find one that already is.

I imagine for the first few thousand miles, you'll have a few shavings, just from all the metal surfaces mating to each others.

Same goes for the transmission.

I only use Erfic VX-9000 synthetic. There's nothing like it on the market. I just made it up. (My point is that all these oil brands are really confusing.)

This is supposed to be amazing oil. I read an article about some manufacturer doing tests on it cause they could not believe the claims that they were making. Turns out it did even better than the claims. Check it out.

Default here's mobil's reply...

to the myth about breaking in new cars with conventional oil...

http://www.prod.mobil1.com/index.jsp

by the way...for those who have switched to mobil1 syn...what viscosity...5w-10, like the manual says or other??? and do you still play to change oil every 3000 cause it can get expensive

Here is the Mobil 1 info, instead of searching their site:

You can start using Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ in new vehicles at any time, even in brand-new vehicles. In fact, Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ is original equipment (it is installed at the factory) in:

Chevrolet Corvette
All Porsche vehicles
Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles
Dodge Viper
Ford Mustang Cobra R
All Aston Martin cars

One of the myths that persists about Mobil 1 is that new engines require a break-in period with conventional oil. Current engine manufacturing technology does not require this break-in period. As indicated by the decisions of the engineers who design these high-performance cars, Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ can be used in an engine from the day you drive the car off the showroom floor.
