The Forum Wars: Season 2
Nice try Vo. i think lack of experience was the culprit here. no bolt on Z was going to beat that mustang in the quarter mile. but a lot of bolt on Zs with good tire could of either closed the gapped or beat the mustang in the autocross and slalom easily. And that could of won the show.
I wouldn't be surpised if he was ahead on both of those. If the sync was accurate on the vid he looked to be ahead until a mistake was made in each. The drag race was never gonna be close.
This season, the forum made out "better" than season 1 at least...
but seriously.. are there NO motorsports oriented Z's that could represent us in a motorsports oriented competition??? With no disrespect to the guy who represented us... I don't understand why the worst person for the task gets chosen. The Mustang guy obviously knew at least 1 event well... running a 12.5 in even the new Coyote cars is not an easy feat. Yes they're fast but the average Joe that takes his car to the track for the first time WILL NOT run a 12.5.
Good effort on the part of our representantive this year... just wish someone else would step up... or at least have the competition on the east coast...
That way everyone could laugh at my drag launches (or bogs
)

)Obviously, it's rigged. That's twice now they stacked the odds against the 350Zs. Just another reason (aside from it being crap) for me to not use Royal Purple.
1st time, they got an inexperienced driver and put a V6 against an experienced driver in a supercharged V8 on race tires.
This time, they get the oldest model Z out of the Z33/Z34 they can. It puts down near stock power, and it's against the best Mustang GT ever made. And the GT isn't stock. The 5.0 is comparable to the current M3, yet they want to compare it to a 2003 350Z? How about bringing out a modded 370Z or at least an HR 350Z? This was a whack comparison. Obviously, they are looking out for the mustang guys' egos here. Typical.

As far as my car not being stock, you are correct. I had a intake and some lowering springs which totally changed the car.
Forumwars came to this site looking for a 370z but none were able to make the event so Val eventually stepped in to atleast represent the forum.

)I still say we should pick a representative and a backup from each area of the country now, so that if they do this again next year we won't have to make a decision at the last minute AGAIN. Then people won't come in here and complain that the show is unfair and biased...
And if you are implying that you don't have much done and that perhaps it's not worth mentioning, I'm sure the intake on your 5.0 added about as much power to your car as several bolt-ons would add to a 2003 350Z.
I'm not trying to take anything away from you here. I just don't see the comparison between a 2003 350Z and the current mustang. I thought the 5.0's rival was the M3?
They keep making us look bad and while doing so, they are making extremely non-entertaining videos. There are more capable cars and more capable owners and for the sake of a close competition and something worth bragging about, they should hold out until they have some close competition. There simply isn't any comparison between the new 5.0 and a near stock 2003 350Z. Why would they act like there is?
They should consider taking a few cars and taking a group average or a "captain's choice" setup. There has to be some way to get a better representation of each group. Every time, we're getting shat on and in reality, that just wouldn't be the case.

Not gonna read through every little detail and all the bickering. I read the gist of this thread (and by gist I mean most of it) and it still doesn't justify anything.
The whole thing was just.... I don't even know what to say. Props to Val for stepping up... I guess? That would be like me going into the Octagon against Brock Lesnar for a title and to represent a group. Knowing 100% I would get destroyed, I'm pretty sure my "group" would not be patting me on the back for going in and making them look bad knowing "we" would lose when we could have sent in someone who was better parred.
Now... If it was just for bragging rights to say "Hey, I went toe to to with Brock and his lunch box sized fists, to see just how long I could last before I got sent off in an ambulance" where nothing was on the line except a test of courage and character, then OK... Then I can see the support from people and the "hey props to you for stepping up, You got *****"
I don't know, this was a poor decision on Royal Purple, and Val for going though with this. You don't just accept a challenge with things riding on the line when you don't stand a chance just to say " Hey I stepped up " You don't see me asking Michael Phelps to a race in the water for $500. For fun? Sure, why not. It's a good laugh.
I'm just rambling. Don't take me too seriously lol. All in All, Val, nice Z, and the auto-x and slalom weren't terrible.

Truth is, he was only severly handicapped in one event, in the other two he had the advantage of plus sized tires and an aftermarket suspension. Like he said, competition was a new thing to him and that's what really bit him in the @#$.

I appreciate it. I actually ended up running a 12.22 out there and then 12.3s. For some reason my 12.56 pass made it but it isn't a big deal other than the pride thing I guess. I have experience at the drag strip and a 12.22 compared to a 12.56 is a huge difference but can't change the way they edited it.
I was thinking about my 16 second pass on the drag last night. That was the one where I forgot to turn off the VDC. That's why I had such a slow reaction time. The darn car cut power to the wheels. Same thing happened when I hit 2nd gear.
Couple things...I went with Val when they did this at RPR (formerly HRP). And I watched the thread when they were looking for someone to fill the 350Z / 370Z spot on the show. Alot of the Z side of the competition was rushed. I think they had someone backout or maybe started the search late....anyways, Val volunteered as a rep for the forum knowing full well he was the underdog and lacked the same power as the new 5.0.
Knowingly going into a competition where you have the disadvantage shows character. Val was a good sport, still maintained confidence with zero track time, and repped the forums well. Best part was it was still fun.

Just saw the vid, Val.
+1 to Oldschool's comments (BTW nice meetin you at Keaton's the other night bro, your Z is a fawkin beast dude!)
...It seems like people are forgetting that Val was CHOSEN BY FW, not the other way around. Yes he applied, but so did my buddy here in Houston (A big track guy) with a Vortech S/C'd full built for track Z with plenty of seat time on road courses and some in drag....and they chose Val. Not our fault, not Val's fault, not the Mustang guy's fault. IMHO the show organizers fuked us here, nobody else, and I certainly dont fault Val for simply applying for this. It was up to the show coordinators to make this fair...and they (imho purposely) did not.
Im a show car guy like Val, i dont track or drag, i build my Z for what i like doing with it. That being said, i can understand where he was at in this thing. Props to the Mustang guys for being good sports, and props to Val for having the ***** to knowingly get destroyed and not ***** about it like i just did, lol.
I've been checking out some of the neighboring forums. Harsh critics out there. Ouch ouch. As modest and straight forward answers as I gave didn't make a difference. The editing still took away the modesty. I'm ok with it. It'll pass over and be forgotten. Thanks for all the support gentlemen ...
Vo....I know you gave it your best shot. The interwebz can be a harsh place. 99% of the people on this and the other Z forums could have done no better, but they all think they can. I'm chomping at the bit if they give us another shot (big if I would imagine),and it is within 1000mi. Doesn't bother me a bit if it were a rematch with a 5.0. Car looked purty, though.
^^^Thanks my brutha. We have some 350 guys on our neighboring sites that were gracious enough to shed some light on the matter. For that I'm thankfull.
I think we'd all be graced to have you represent us if the opportunity presents itself next round...

....and what are the racing credentials, etc of these said critics? Aside from plopping their *** down in front of the TV and playing forza or Gran Tourismo every once and a while....
Most of our sister sites are 97% nooberz or guys who couldn't hack it on this site, I'm on another one somewhat frequently enough to know this. Call me a pompous *** or whatever but I truly believe this. I would pay no attention to any criticism they have to offer.
