And just when you thought Nissan's situation couldn't get any worse... Ghosn goes on the lam.

http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/news...head-of-trial/

Way to try and prove your "Innocence", Carlos.

See? Toldju guys Nissan made a mistake hiring him instead of me. Who's laughing now, dumazzes?

Sounds like the same bs we've been hearing for the past 10 years. I'll believe it when I see it and not a second sooner. There's a story on Car and Driver too..

The BRUTAL TRUTH is that Nissan is a company in transition. With the Ghosn legacy fading into history, other voices at Nissan (including the new CEO) are calling for new product, including 10 new models in the next 18 months. When this thread was started back in 2015, there was little hope a compelling business case could be made for a new Z in the near future, but as 2020 begins the BRUTAL TRUTH is that a new Z has a new lease on life.

Don't expect the new Z35 to be on sale right away. I predict that a show model might appear at the Tokyo Auto Show this fall (or before at the Olympics?) to gauge public reaction. The spring of 2021 will see a pre-production Z35 ready and the question is: will Nissan begin to accept pre-orders for the 2022 400Z (or whatever they decide to call it) next year? Those of us who were pre-order Z33 owners remember the anticipation and excitement of those days. Will Nissan try to recapture some of that magic?

If there is a new model then Nissan could do a lot worse than base it's styling on the iconic S30. Something that they could have implemented from the beginning just like Porsche have done so successfully with the 911. But Nissan as a company seems to have no long term vision so no breaths are being held here.

The Nissan News doesn't get much better these days... Sales overall are down 10% from last year.

New Model Launches which are long overdue keep getting pushed back further and further in 6 month increments across all models.

Job Cuts and Early Retirements are on the minds of Nissan Employees these days.

Parts Supply Shortages from China due to Coronavirus closures.

The QX55 " Crossover Coupe " is one those models pushed back another 6 months and won't launch until the Fall of 2020

Just how " Long in the Tooth " can the existing 370Z get ?

Will the 50th Anniversary really prompt more that another 50 to 75 Sales ? Doubtful....

Monthly US Unit Sales on the 370Z is well below 200 a month these days.. We're never going to see the next one... Are We ?

AX8 ~ At least my pics can be over saturated as the 370z, and alllNissan & Infinitis sure aren't over saturating the Market these days....

I’ve never really understood the whole “concept car” thing where so few of them have any features, let alone swoopy body parts, that ever make it to production. (And this is from a guy who has represented pie in the sky software for over 30 years.... and should understand the “art of pre-selling concepts that will never work because it requires magic, not coding to make work”, hahahaha!)

But ya, most of these exoto, futuristic, origami bodied “creations” seem to just be a designer’s masturbatory exercise in “Budget? Real world? What the f**k is that?!” fun time cuz he’s the chairman’s nephew. Laff....

Ok, that’s harsh.... but tell me I’m wrong and any of those complicated fenders will ever see the light of day in production.

Yeah yeah , I’m old and too pragmatic.

Get off my damm lawn!! 🤡

Old news and concept. This one was intended as a future GT-R concept for PlayStation and was shown almost three years ago. You can see some iconic GT-R details in the twin round tail lights. Fun, but that's about it.

Whilst we patiently await the next coming of a Z car...

We can enjoy the Sentra Concept morph into....

The Actual Production Sentra - the Corolla Fighter - and when Nissan needs to move 'em due to flat sales, Fleet Sales are inevitable...

Coming soon to the Compact Isle at Car Rental Facility near you....

Up Next... The Rougue Re-Fresh - Oh Boy !

Regarding the new Sentra, don't expect to see many of them in rental fleets. Nissan is no longer working on pure volume, as that was part of Ghosn's strategy, and is trying to restock dealer inventories with fresh product. Sure, things are rough in the current automotive market, but it appears Nissan is committed to helping dealers make a buck when they can. Fleet sales don't do that, although there's still plenty of older Nissans (three years or older) that are being sold off.

10-4 of the Desired Strategy to avoid fleet sales...

However.... when the lines run and nobody buys..... they gotta go somewhere...

Can the US sustain the 17 million new units sold streak in 2020 ?

Forecasters are predicting a drop...

Raw Material Orders are way down.....

Yep- the BRUTAL TRUTH is the entire auto industry is in trouble. Coronavirus has already disrupted the supply chain and North American vehicle sales are showing a downward trend. The rest of the world? Same issues, only worse, in most countries.

Default Next generation Z35

I’m not saying this to ruffle someone’s feather. I am an asian dude working and living here in the states for close to eleven years now. Just to add to your very interesting observations about a new Z35 to come in the near future, with all in-house R&D and homologated approved street car. I’m pretty sure Nissan is developing the new Z platform if there are sale demands here at North America that will force them to develop and release it in a fast pace. Look at Toyota 2020 Supra and the reasons why they tied up with BMW. Those are the same set of reasons why Nissan is very careful on how they approach and develop the future Z for enthusiasts like me. It will come, the question is will they consider the economic side of everything just to make sale. Electric cars will not replace my excitement in driving a petrol driven MT vehicle. But that’s just me. Cheers to all of us Z lovers out there!

I work in the logistics industry and let me just say in general terms the supply chain is most definitely disrupted in huge ways. I have been in some crazy meetings this week. Imagine what happens, for example, you have a 750,000 square foot warehouse and someone working in the warehouse comes down with the virus, which in turn, shuts down for decontamination. The interesting thing that you would not even think of is we have a pile of empty containers all over the West Coast that need to get back to Asia, but because a LOT of ships are not sailing they are all stuck here. So, when they do ramp production back up in Asia, the thinking is we will have a container shortages in Asia to load things up and get them over here. High rates of no shows for hourly labor in the warehouses as well. It really just goes on and on, but each day is bringing new "surprises" in my world. Going to be a bumpy ride for sure.

Good points in the BRUTAL TRUTH thread, Jim. These are the sort of details that'll help us understand the true impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Logistics for the car industry will be brutal going forward and as with general health, "will get worse, before they get better".

More of the same "'new-Z-coming' news". But at least from a source I trust more than rampant Facebook speculation and renderings.
