I knew that the GTR was going to have trans problems, it was almost a gimme. This is just the begining...wait until the thin plasma coating on the cylinder walls wears...hehe, a very fast bomb....or, when the the axles snap because of the power. If you can't warranty 0-60 in 3.5 seconds...then the car shouldn't do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds! PERIOD!

As far as the service and warranty issues...This is why I will never ever ever buy a $70k+ Nissan!...heck, $45k is still too much for a Nissan. Come on people, think about where your $90k GTR's are being serviced and who is determining the problem...the same guy who just finished changing the oil on a Sentra. Get a certified Porsche 911 Turbo...Fast, Bulletproof, LOOKS HAWT, and get PIMP service at dealerships. The only "sorry" you get from Porsche is for leaving paper mats in your car after service.

Loved what the GTR was....Admired what the GTR has become....Dread what the GTR will be!
Now this post goes too far. Your 911 gets beat down by the z06 and zr1 yet they are serviced by chevy. What about the viper serviced by dodge? The fact that nissan makes it has NOTHING to do with the problems at hand.

Even without LC the GTR is a sweet ride, just less sweet. Im sure nissan will sort the issues or the car will not be made as it wont be profitable. Either way if i had 75k i cant say i wouldnt give the GTR its full consideration and i wouldnt even look at porsche. Why? Because i like fast cars more than i like prestige.

The reason the GTR bothers me is that it is akin to fasle advertising to me. Brand hating is just silly.

Your right, I apologize...what I meant to say was, "I would never pay more than $45k on a standard brand name (i.e; Chevy, Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, etc...) If you want $70k+ of my hard earned money, you better be ready to give me some first class service!

Also, I agree with you on the false advertising direction that Nissan has been steering in...so sad, so sad.

All I gathered from the link is that AHR is working on building a tranny that can withstand LC. As far as I know it's not even out yet and who knows how much longer it will take.

More importantly how will changing to an aftermarket tranny affect the overall warranty on the vehicle? Thats kinda scary to be frank...you could end up screwing up a lot of other things in the process being that the vehicle is so technologically sophisticated. GL either way.

I think in a way its good that this has happened and that we all know including Nissan, that launch control is rough on the tranny ( rough enough to blow it) since they are still working on the Spec-V version. Which hopefully means that they (Nissan) knows to use better metals and possibly a stronger design.

If you buy the stuck in snow BS then you really have no place in this discussion imo.
I hear what you're saying but I still have to disagree with you. Reviews are on tracks with test drivers to show maximum performance of a car in question. But just because a sportscar can be thrashed around a track doesn't mean it should be warrantied for all that exact driving. Does it tell you how to do launch control starts in the manual? No. It tells you not to do them if you want a warranty. Yes its sad that the tranny failed after a short time but can you really expect Nissan to pay for these tranny's. I mean where do you draw the line on Launches? One. Ten. 100?

Yes it would be great to buy a race-car with a warranty...I just doubt youre going to have any luck...dont try to convince me I'd be with you in a sec but I think its going to be a tough sell.

We have a GTR here at my store and after 16 launches the trans broke but not just broke the case shattered. Nissan didn't cover it under warranty but corp got involved and gave us a new tranny and had nissan install it for about 12k. Needless to say we aren't launching it anymore lol

OK,

I haven't read the entire thread....but how many actual documented cases of failure have there been. I can only find three, and one of those keeps getting posted over and over again on different forums.

+1, I saw a GT-R on the lift at Superior Nissan of Fremont for two weeks. I asked, and it had a busted tranny.

Nissan needs to get their act together on the GTR. Transmission failures after 16 launches is just unacceptable when the Z06 and ZR1 can launch like that all day long.

There is a difference with AWD and RWD transmissions.....from what I learned with the AWD suby tranny is launching is a no no - very prone to breaking gears and expensive stuff....

Really? I saw a picture of a broken diff. from a local Z06 owner here from running at the drag strip. From the title of the thread, didn't sound like it was his first

Well from a previous GSX owner, you can launch an awd hard all the time, but it will keep breaking, and breaking, and breaking!!!

Actually, there have been more than a few diff issues with the Z06, and especially with the CTS-V. But given the highly publicized permance og the GT-R, the three that have happened have been blown way out of porpotion.

I've actually witnessed this at the local track.

wrong. The 009 revision trans is pretty stout.

At the dealership I work at, there are more A/T being replaced than M/T, by a number of about 3 to 1.

Weren't the rear ends of an S2000 weak or was it the clutch?

Anyways... Sound Performance's 6MT 350Z ran a what... 9.35?
