Unhappy This is silly: Fighting a losing battle

This getting silly, but I am finding out why i should NOT have gotten a Black 350Z.

I find I am having to wash my car 3 times a week, jusy to keep her looking semi-decent.

I wash her in the evening, go to work the next day and then when it comes time to come home, she is covered in sand and dust (I work on a construction site, which has heavy traffic on it). What makes matters worse is that there is a constant breeze here in Dubai and it just kicks all the sand/dust up and seems to blow it onto my car!

May be a small whinge, but sometimes I wish I had stuck to my original choice of a Silver Z!

It takes me 1.5 - 2 hours to wash her. Hose down, wash, rinse and then dry throughly.

Think I may have to get myself a nice little runaround, in WHITE!

I feel your pain, I have an 05 black 350zr and I can not keep it clean. Eventhough I keep it in the garage dust accumilates on the car. But no matter what you do, you must keep it clean. Even if it means washing it every day. The Z deserves to be treated as such. The problem I hate more than the dust is after I wax it and I see those smears of residue from the wax. I think it is because the tempature outside is not warm enough or I need to get a different kind of wax. What kind of wax do you use?

I'll be perfectly honest and say that I have to get round to giving her a really good waxing! I swear by Meguirs, but cannot source it here in Dubai. It is now getting to the stage where I will have to wax her (only had her for 2.5 weeks, so it's very new).

She will always be clean, that I promised myself. I do take great pride in having a clean car both inside and out (gotta impress the ladies somehow, hahahahahahahahaha).

I also hate it when people put there damn "paws" all over her, god, does that leave a smear or what!

I too have a black ZR and know your pain. For the first 6 months I kept the car clean enough to use as a mirror.

That got old fast, now it looks more like a dark grey car.

I highly recommend the California Car Duster. Make sure you have a nice coat of wax on. It works well with dust and dirt on a cool parked car. Also don't use it when there is moisture outside. I would use this every 3 days for my CS roadster and it is 90 percent clean.

One of my co-worker is from Dubai also. He's Indian though.

I also carry a bottle of Mother's California Gold Showtime Instant Detailer and a microfiber towel to clean off the sticky bird crap and water spots.

I tried California duster, still leaves a bit of hair line scratch. I suggest you get a car cover and leave it on at the construction site?

I agree with ya, super black is the worst color to keep clean. Best color is silver!

Maybe so, however...
Super Black is the best color (IMO) When Clean!
Results are worth any extra effort vs other colors.

Owned one SB, and bought another SB, nuff said...

I have to admit, black is stunning when clean. It really is worth the effort when she is clean.

As for the dust cover. I am afraid NOT, as any dust/sand getting unerneath with then act like a piece of sandpaper and i will be left with HUGE swirlmarks all over the car. San is particularly nasty when it comes to being abrasive!

Do you have many swirl marks??

I'll never own a black car again...unless it is a garage queen.

Black cars just don't reward you for the amount of detailing you have to do, and even if you're extra carefull, swirls/spidering will happen.

The black car downward spiral:

Gets dirty easy ===> have to wash it more

You wash it more ===> leads to more swirls

You hate swirls ===> Now you must wax it

Constant waxing ===> even more swirls when wax wears off.

Then you go insane and buy a silverstone Z!

But black is stunning when clean...

i agree on the cali duster and swirl marks on black paint. Remember every time you wash it you add more swirl to the paint. I advice highly with the porter cable. I got out about 95% of my marks out.

Is it me, or is Nissan paint the softest I've ever dealt with? Microscratches in the blink of an eye.

Anyhow, Meguiars Instant Detailer - spray it on liberally, don't wipe hard. Awesome results on SB, avoids the scratching from normal washing.

Black is beautiful, but definitely high maintenance.

Yes, it appears that the Nissan paint is soft, I already have a scratch from someone opening their car door into mine!

My last ride was a '97 Black N Tan Miata... Never again.

In the Arizona desert it is tough to keep a black car looking nice. I have had my PPW Roadster a few days now and we have had nothing but rain! Gi figger.

The California worked well with my Miata.
