Default Roadster / Vert .....worth the waiting? Opinions Please?

Hi,
Now that NISSAN has released the Official pictures of the convertible Z what is everyones reaction?
Is it everything you thought it would look like?
Does it meet your expections?

Would love to hear everyones thought and comments on the Vert or should I say ROADSTER

The official pics were released last week, and once everyone saw them, thats it, the hype just died down....no one really commented or vented their opinions or views.

Personally, for me, the official pics look very similar to the photoshop ones that have been floating around the web for sometime....so I guess it wasnt really a big deal for me...however, I really like it, and wonder how it will handle and compare to the coupe.

Thanks and Happy Z-ing.......

I'm still waiting to see what it looks like with the top up. But, I just like the looks of coupes instead. If I really want to go riding with no top, I just take my Harley.

its nice, we all knew what it would look like basicly, but the details were left out, some still are, the only thing theyve cleared up was the roll bar situation and what the cover would look like. however it lost that roofline where the roof slopes straight into the hatch down into the bumper. but obviously... if you remove the glass it would have to. but will it have the same shape when the top is up? thats what Im curious about.

lack of trunk space bothers me, believe it or not, Ive never found myself unable to fit everything I needed to into the Z. it has alot of space for lots of small bendalbe objects, no a bike wont fit, but bags, and little boxes will.

also, convertable is just extra weight, less stability, and more noise, 3 things the Z does not need any more of.

anyway, in the end, its a convertable, and it really depends where you live... if your in the north, whats the point? a convertable for like 3 months of the year? or the south, you can use it in the fall and spring(about 2 weeks each) otherwise its too cold, or too hot, trust me, my last car was a convertable, Id be sweating in it.

if I was in like the middle area, or on the coast... then Id say it has a purpose. or if it isnt your daily driver, just a weekend cruiser, you could really enjoy it.

it certainly has its uses, and its not bad looking at all. I personally think it comes down to how much use you can get out of the convertable option.

Default Worth the wait!?!? Heck yeah!

I pre-ordered mine in January! Now that I have seen the pictures I am glad I did.

You are right, the official photo looked mostly like the photochops, except now we know that it will have dual roll bars and a COOL hard cover over the top when it is down.

For me this is a second/toy car with a Dodge Durango for snow/rain/cargo. As a second car the convertible is ideal.

Some people observe that the weight will be a little higher (some guesses range 100-200 pounds more) and there may be a little more body flex, but that doesn't bother me since I don't seriously race. Those things may steal a 1/10th of a second here or there, but when you are just ripping around back roads who really cares as long as it is fast and solid.

The body was designed from day 1 to be a convertible, so I am guessing the flex will be very well controlled (althought the roof surely helps a little). How good is good enough? Depends how you drive and if you race against a clock.

For tooling around back roads and enjoying the wind and sun this convertible will be the BEST convertible sports car value available (in my opinion). More torque than the S2K, way cheaper than the Z4 with the decent engine, and in a completely different league than the Miata. The only convertibles that out-do the Z will be much more expensive (Z6 corvette, 911, etc.)

I can't wait.

Personally, I'm very torn on the issue. I got my Z in November, and I love it. The ride is relatively quiet on the inside, the handling is amazing. Two things that you sacrifice with a convertible. But given that I listen to cd's almost always when I'm in the car, I doubt the noise would bother me. But the less stiff chassis could be a big downer. Another bad thing with convertibles is there's the posibility of creaking noises in addition to other normal car noises. (especially bad in mustang, and camaro convertibles) I want a convertible soooooo bad (I live in LA, no better place on the planet for a convertible), but I don't know if I want to deal with the draw backs of a convertible. I'm definitely considering a swap though, maybe a year from now or so. I have some time to think about it, no rush.

Yes there are, just not from the factory. There are a few people that cut the tops off of them, for a small fee of $12,000. I'm waiting to see if the Infiniti takes the top off as well, and whether or not it still has a back seat. The back seat of the G35 SC is way bigger than mine in my TA converitble. I'd like to see that stay the same if they make a G35 Roadster as well. As for performance, the F-bods are still going to win over the Z's at the track, and they are still cheaper as well. Too bad they are discontinued. Camaro should come back in a few years, and a new Z will be in the press, a Z28 that is. I'd be willing to bet that most of the racing done by any members on this site is either honking on the highway, green lights, or a few at a drag strip. How many people seriously go auto-crossing. F-Bodies were the KING of value for performance.

Well, anyone can cut the top off of any car, but that doesn't mean that there is a an actual Z06 'vert. You can't just go out and buy one.

Default Body rigidity

It's wierd... people here seem to be assuming that the roadster will be too flexible. Since the car was designed from the start to be a convertible I sort of doubt Nissan will let that happen.

I know the convertible will be a little more flexible than a hard top in general. But I think it may be a bit of a leap to assume that it will be enough more flexible to matter anywhere except the track.

Obviously nobody knows for sure, but some modern convertibles are pretty darn rigid.

I know what you mean about some american convertibles though. My old 1968 Camaro ragtop flexed like Bob Dole without his viagra.

Let's hope Nissan does a little better than that.

Because comparing 36 year old technology to that of today is a fair assesment! I know that the 4th gen F-Bodies (93+) were designed from the ground up to be a convertible. The vert models are a lot heavier, with extra reinforcement on the frame. Comparing this car to my 91 Beretta and 87 Cutlass Ciera, I still think the TA is the most rigid of them all. I feel that the addition of some sub-frame connectors would really make an undetectable difference from the coupe.

As for the Z06 Vert, The guy does a lot more than just cutting off the top. He sets it up just like a regular Corvette convertible. He even uses GM tops. They really do look sharp.

Looks great with the top down but I'm really curious to see the top up.

More weight is never a good thing. But the Z was super stiff to begin with and designed from the start to lose it's top. The weight gain may be not as much as people are predicting because it is losing the tin roof and all that glass.

I personally did not like the pictures I have seen of it.

It takes away from the look our new Z's have, that sort of Porshe bubble top. That I consider to be one of the nicest points when looking at the car. Without the top it looks like any old vert. on the road. (maybe just a touch faster!)

thats just my opinion and it can change after I see one in person.

I think what he's saying is that it looks just a touch faster than any random convertible out there.

I'm not sure what 1/4 times the Z is getting.
