Default Stupid Hail

Well I got caught at work and my car got a little hail damage. Cracked windshield and about 6 spots on the hood. Amazingly enough that was all of the damage not one other panel was touched.

I took my car to see if they could do the paintless dent repair. They said one spot they might not be able to get out. They said if that is the case the price would be at around 1500 to paint and fix or replace.

If it is that much what would you guys think about just getting a carbon vented hood and saving some money. I could even get the hood painted but leave the vents unpainted. I kind of like that look.

I have only seen two roadsters on here with carbon hoods. Are there any pics of silvertone roadsters with the carbon hoods going around?

I am going to wait a while to do anything because I doubt the crazy weather is over.

Well he said it would be around 400 if he could pdr everything. The guy said if he can't PDR the big dent I would be looking at around 1500 for paint and new hood. He didn't look anything up that was just off the top of his head. For a new windshield I am probably looking at 300.00.

So that is probably paint, windshield, and hood.

damn, $1500 seems a bit high..around here you can buy a used (super clean) hood and paint it for about $500

if you can have the glass done for $300..that comes to $800...

Lol I live in Kansas, it could probably hail in December or tornado and I wouldn't be surprised.

It hailed 3 times in May, but I was lucky enough to get the car in the garage before it hit. My wifes 07 Dodge Nitro was outside and got over 6500 in damages. The one day I couldn't leave early and that crap happens. This was before memorial weekend on friday.

The top was fine thank goodness. Yeah it could be cheaper this guy was just guessing. He only does paintless dent repair, not an actual body shop.

My wife really likes it. They are a good SUV if you just want to put in D and go cruise. They have some power to them too. It is what she wanted so I couldnt' say no because at the time I already had an S2000 and she just had her 98 accord.

The R/T Nitros are pretty sweet. She just got the base package.

You can probably find a used OEM hood of the color you need in the marketplace section for around the same cost as the PDR.

I can see if that will work. My insurance company Geico, writes the check out to me and my bank. So if my bank will let me pick my parts I can do that. I think they may make me work through a body shop. The shop might be able to order the parts through the site though.

If worse comes to worse though. What do you guys think about a carbon fiber hood on the silverstone? I just don't want to get flamed. I am not really into other carbon parts so that would be it.

Sorry to read about the damage. We had hail here the past days also. A coworker of mine had damage to her car. As soon as I heard about hail on the radio, I hauled *** home & as soon as I pulled my ZR into the garage, the sky opened up like it was the end of the world. Golf ball sized hail, lightnight , rain, & strong *** wind. Branches were laying all over the streets & yards. It's a good thing here in FL, auto insurance companies are required to replace windshields at no cost to the policy holders.

Thanks, the way you describe the storm is what happened the time my wife's car got hit. Florida and KS seem to get crapped on this time of the year. Even California got some tornadoes.

As for the hood, I guess I am not worried so much about getting flamed as, it not looking good. I want to keep the Z looking sharp and mesh nicely toghether. I just need to check out more pics. I do love the look of the vented hoods. Some are too over the top for me though. Nothing crazy.
