Default For Stock: How is the bose system?

Just wondering how it sounds stock. I have the base and I have never heard the bose set up. I wonder if It sounds decent, could i put the entire bose system in my base? I saw one on ebay for like $150.... can this be done?

It can be done, but would be difficult. Probably easier to install aftermarket stuff then mess with all that OEM wiring and then find out your missing some of the wiring.

not worth it. Better off buying Infinity Kappa Coax front speakers, and a decent head unit. Itll cost you 200 to 300 but will work better. Ebay is good for that stuff too. You could even get a cheapo amp and cheapo 10 Fosgate sub for that compartament of you want "teh bass" all that you could probably do for as low as 200 bucks. But you do drive a Z, splurge a bit

I plan on upgrading my stereo in the next few months but I have to admit for a factory non-premium stereo the regular set up in the Z isn't half bad... for stock.

besides the sub, I doubt the bose system would sound that much better than what you have now, at least not enough better to cover the cost of the install.

Save up a bit more... ask the guys with the Bose, I dont think they are too happy with it.

I really think you could do better with aftermarket stuff off of ebay... but thats just my opinion I suppose..

Well, I think the stock Bose systems sounds great. I may be in the (vocal) minority, but proud of it!!!

Yea I agree and don't think its as bad as everyone says it is, however even if you were able to find one ripped out or a car for $150 I don't think it would be worth the time and/or money to have it all installed. Assuming everything goes 100% correct and the seller gives you everything you need your looking at $200+ to have it all installed (maybe more for a sub, 4 speakers and a head unit). Then if you ever decide to upgrade later you will have to work with the bose adapter and stuff. I would recommend getting a bass tube or that basslink installed to fill in the lows that the stock doesn't give you then slowly work from there as needed. If bass isn't what your looking for then I say for $150 you could prolly get a nice set of componet speakers installed and drive it off your stock HU. The rear speakers are so close to your head anyway you could just turn them down a little with the fader and you should notice an improvement.

I have the BOSE unit, I would not pay more than $4.99 for it. Once you break $5.00 the market has alot better systems out there. I plan on changing out my front speakers and adding an amp to drive them, I want to keep the HU because I own a roadster. I had a Toyota Tacoma with the base stereo. I replaced the Head Unit with a $179.00 Pioneer Head Unit and it totally destroyed the sound in my Z, even though I left the cheap factory speakers. BOSE cannot replicate high sounds or low sounds properly. - The BOSE HU looks very professional in the Z, but looks for a radio are not as important as sound.

If you're not really in to music and never turn your stereo on then the Bose system is fine. Don't waste your time otherwise. The HU works okay for pushing decent sound if you replace the front speakers, amp and sub (which I did) but best results would be achieved replacing the HU (which I'm going to do).

Bose doesn't make head units, so the Z HU is not really Bose, just Bose-branded. I think its a Clarion. 03s had a problem with the Bose amp which caused muddy sound. My 04 has the upgraded Bose system, and it sounds fine - highs are crisp and clear and lows are deep and strong. Replacing amps and speakers can improve sound, but I would suggest you check it out for yourself before you assume the system sounds like crap. Make sure your source is also good (a good CD or high-rate MP3s). I have all my MP3s encoded at 192K and they sound great on my stock Bose system, especially with the top down.

You're right, Clarion makes the amps & HU but it is Bose branded and backed so as far as we owners are concerned it's a Bose. The NNA amp replacement for the 03's did not provide an adequate improvement in sound quality. My amp replacement did I haven't listened to an 04 or 05 Bose system to know if it's any better. If it is then improvements in the HU or factory amp have been made.

I know there is some difference with the 04 Touring, which has a satellite ready HU. I don't know if the difference is just the satellite option or if there is anything else.
