iPod and the Z
I know some Nissans are set up to have the iPod as a plug and play device (a friend has a Titan like this). Do you know if the Z comes from the factory like this? My salesman was pretty clueless. I'd really like to be able to just plug it in without having to buy the integration kit (cheap, but factory is always better). The RF modulator works ok, but one less wire in the cockpit would be nice.
Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you have a 2004 or later, you can get one of these AAI-NIS parts.
I think you can get them on ebay for less than $90. They work on factory head units that have sat in.
It doesn't have direct interface to control the ipod like some of the other after market HUs do, though.

Thanks for the link.
I have an itrip, but I'd like to get away from some of the interference I get on the radio. I've tried loading all the stations that come with the itrip, but it sucks big donkey nuggets when it starts playing a radio station when I have it on shuffle...throws off my whole day trying to get it back where I want it.

I installed an automatic switch and a ready made cable which plugs into the output of the CD player. If the CD player doesn't have a CD in it, it defaults to the mp3 player.
I ran it up into the dash storage cubby (no nav) and just plug in the iRiver 20GB unit there. I select CD and play away. It's pretty slick. No dash penetration and the cable / plug is hidden in the cubby. Any car audio store can put one in for you. The hardest part is getting the cable routed up behind the dash and into the cubby.

sounds like a sweet setup, are you using the factory head unit? i'd like to do it, but i don't really want to change my factory unit right yet.
This is exactly the solution I was looking for. So how exactly does it work? From the picture, it looks like one plug connects to the back of my head unit, while another plug goes into my iPod? It's just an AUX input I assume, so it'll connect to the headphone plug on my iPod (if I'm correct).

I found that only works great if you have very few artists. The volume **** to scroll between folders takes all goddamn day. I had it, installed it, uninstalled and returned it same day. Blech!
So question....Lets say i get a headunit with ipod capability. How long is the cord that connects the ipod to the headunit, because i am planning on cutting a section of my armrest console out for this, but i want to make sure the cord is long enough to reach the ipod. Do they offer variable length cords, or is there like 1 standard length.
THIS is the headunit i am going to be purchasing.

No problem! I love mine. I'm actually sitting here feeding my iPod right now. Someone mentioned earlier that it takes a while to scroll through all the artists. That's true, but if you have a few different playlists with what you want to hear it solves that problem.
yeah im not worried about that. I just wanna stop having to carry around cds, so this is a sweet alternative, still gotta be easier than diggin through a case to find the cd u wanna hear.

The switch was about $80, the cord to the Aux/CD output RCA was $25 and is about 1' long and I had them shorten the input cord (About $45) to the mp3 player to 2'. With install it came to about $190.
Yes, using the stock head unit for now. I'm considering a total audio build project but I'd rather listen to the exhaust! <G>
