You can get some phone wire and hardwire it yourself.

Take it to a shop then. Even with the hardwire kit you'll have to tap a wire or two.

you can order the hardwiring kit from passport. installing it is really really easy. ive even taught a friend who has no idea how to use tools how to hardwire a radar. rather than taping any wires, it's easiest to just run the power wire back to the fuse box and wrap the end of the wire around one of the ends of a fuse (make sure it is an accessory fuse so the radar is only on when the car is on). then wrap the ground wire around a bolt that is located by the fuse box. route the wire up the a pillar, in the headliner, and bring it down to where you want the radar to be. done.

I just did mine, and that diagram is wrong. I had to reverse the ground and 12V for my 8500 X50 blue to power on. Other than that it was easy, took about 1/2 hour.

I tapped into the homelink mirror, black is ground and black/red is 12V battery.

When I wired my last detector, I just threw a couple T-taps on the wires for the cigarette outlet for power. This worked well because the detector would turn on as soon as you turned on the ignition. I wouldnt recommend it however if you run high-amp accessories through the dash outlet, you might burn up the fuse.

I had a local shop install it. They used the hardwire kit and ran it up the plastic conduit above the mirror and around to the fuse box. I think it was $50-60... I am not really a DIY kind of guy so I just threw money at the problem.

it didn't obstruct my view, but it wasn't easy refocusing between the road ahead and the radar detector. Overall though, its still the best place to mount it.

www.escortradar.com to order the hardwire kit
