Default 7" VGA LCD Possibility? (also touch screen)

Anybody seen a Xenarc LCD screen? They are a bit more expensive than the Farenheits, but have the advantage of coming with VGA input. There is a Video model, a VGA model, a VGA+Video model, and a touch screen model with VGA or VGA + Video.

They range in price here from $270 for video only up to $580 for VGA+video+touch screen.

These would seem better if they would fit for those wanting to install a PC in their car. TV out is always blurry IMO, so VGA would probably be something I would do if I decide to take the plunge.

I'm just not sure if they'd fit. It is slightly larger, and has those buttons on the bottom. Probably could be done, but might require more work.

I have no idea. I just hit that googling, and thought it interesting, but hadn't seen them mentioned here. I did a search on the brand here, and came up with nothing.

yeah i've been looking at this. its about an inch wider than the Farenheit 7" and bout 1/2" taller. Depth isn't to much a problem.
The Farenheit fits with little to no room to spare. using this screen would require mod to get it to fit. I want to see if the bulk of the size is the case, if so, then maybe the case can be removed.

Also, heard that these screen are kind picky when it comes to power input. over 14V and the screen will fry.

These were the dimensions I saw:

Farenheit: 4.5 x 7.25 x 1.25

Xenarc: 4.75 x 7.75 x 1.38

Half inch wider, quarter higher, and a bit deeper.

I have to agree, I don't think this screen will fit without cutting.

It does solve a lot of the problems for those that want some sort of computer in their car....Scafremon....

I think it was VQRacer who first named the manufacturer of the stock system....though now that I think about it again, I'm not sure it was Xenarc.....

thats the dimension for the Farenheit 7002. the 7001 is what people installed.

Farenheit t-7001MHR dimensions are:
4.5" x 6.8" x .75"

so its a quarter higher, amost an inch wider and .63" deeper.

heres a pic of the screen inplace:
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=14291

BUT theres hope
Found the specs for the screen (its in Japanese and its a Panasonic screen)

http://www.zcentric.com/~mitcht/xenarc/pan7lcd.pdf

near the bottom it shows the dimension of the screen and the board. ITS SMALLER THAN THE FARENHEIT!!!

So its a just have to remove the case and build and more compact one.

Oops. Sorry, about that.

I guess a way to test to see how much modification would be required is to cut a piece of wood to size (you might have a problem getting exact depth, but that shouldn't be an issue).

Here is the current screen that I am going to be working around.

That Xenarc is going to be way too big for the nav area, unless you strip it down. And if you are going to strip the monitor down, you might as well start out with a component.

hey Scaf. is that the new VGA you were telling me about? Size looks ok. Is it a touch screen? Have you teated it with the nav yet? I might be able to get a Group buy on the Xenarc , I think they will fit good with out the Case.

Yes, this is the demo that was loaned to me. It can become a touchscreen by adding the membrane and the controller (about $100). This is a non-working unit (no video controller on it), but I have seen this screen hooked up to a computer, and it is beautiful. One thing to look at when choosing a VGA screen is the brightness level. You need atleast 300 nits for daylight viewing; 500 nits is better. I've seen some some VGA screens with only 150 nits, which are really only suitable for dark room applications.

It's an LCD Raw Module. These are purchased by OEM's for inclusion in product (medical devices, elevators, control rooms, etc). I found a local company that imports them from Korea, and adds the additional backlighting.

The screen is currently being redesigned, so the LCD will be centered in the case. That should be available in March.

If you do a google seach on LCD raw modules, you will find various manufacturers. Most don't care about inquiries for one or a dozen units- they prefer orders based on yearly commitments of thousands. However, this local company I found seemed anxious to assist me, so I am hoping I can work out a good price on a few units. But it won't be until March.
