Default Powering aftermarket speakers with stock H/U

I know there are people out there who have done this.

I have two sets of MB Quart seperates from my last car that are just sitting around collecting dust. I am curious how the sound quality would be if I did nothing but change the stock speakers to the MB Quarts.

I know that stock headunits are made to work specificaly with the stock speakers, but I am very unpleased with the sound quality of the stock speakers. However, I really enjoy having a 6 CD in-dash.

Anyone who has upgraded their speakers only please let me know how it sounds in their car.

Put them in, the speakers will work, but you will more than likely have to turn your radio volume up higher to get the same sound output of the stock speakers. The factory radio usually only puts out about 10-12 watts RMS(clean useable power). Look up the RMS power rating of the speakers that you are putting in. I'm not saying that you will not be able to hear them, they will definetly sound better than stock, but on those days that you want to roll the windows down and really let the music go, you won't have the same quality. Only because your radio just doesn't have enough power for them to be played at a high volume and STILL be clear.

I have infinity 60.5cs Kappas in the doors driven by the stock HU. Sound much better then the stockers. I can turn the HU up to about 20~ .. to me it sounds like it is starting to distort at any higher levels from the stock HU. Again, to back up what the post above says, you will have to turn the volume up higher. Amps and aftermarket HU in the works.

You can't get good sound from the HU, even with upgraded speakers. Go buy a new HU, it really is a must. They are pretty cheap now anyways.

If you hook the speakers up and they have the same power output and sound good its a match, but if you require more power to acheive the same volume your speakers are not operating at full potential and do have greater distortion. The simplest way to maintain your stock HU and improve your sound is to install an amp and use your MB,you will really be satisfied, PS I put in a small 300w Alpine with 4-5" kappas and left the stock HU, my system sounds great!
