Default Do you guys think 2-10" subs are too much?

Howdy folks!
After suffering through 9 cd players in my damn Blose system, I'm finally ditching it. After many different changes of heart, my last decision is on how many subs. I've already decided on the Image Dynamics IDQ10" in one of Mike's under strut boxes. However, I'm now thinking of getting 2 instead of 1 because I think it looks a little better. My question is, do you think it might give too much bass? This is my daily driver, and not a rump shaker. Would a separate bass control be justified, or unnecessary? Thanks.

If you have an aftermarket headunit you can adjust your bass from them usually. 2 (10's) are perfect in my opinion. I have one memphis pro audio 10 and I think another one would sound much better and fuller. Go with two, it looks better and it will sound better. Just push them with the right amp.

I'm going to be running a PG Xenon 200.4 with 200W going to each. It's not a ton, but should be enough for these subs.

I have a JL Stealthbox in mine w/ 2 10"s and I don't think it's overpowering. It can get loud but I keep it at a moderate level. I would recommend 2 10"s to 1 10".

better to have more than not enough...thats what i found out. just bc you have 2 doesnt mean you need to blow out your ears, but it is fun when you do want to blow them out

Dr. Z, I have the same setup you do! I have 2 10" IDQ subwoofers not under the strut bar though.. I took out the spare tire and put it there. I have a JL 500/1 amp powering both those subs... but I have the same amp you do, the PG Xenon 200.4 as well, powering my MB Quart Q-series speakers all around inside the car. The 2 10" IDQ woofers are perfect for me; they hit hard and I can tune it so it won't hit as hard if I wanted. It's not "earth-shattering" by any means though - is that what you were concerned about? They sound really nice! I was following my friend on the freeway with the system turned "decently" up and after we got out of our cars, he said he could "hear" my bass behind him on the freeway lol. Also, my Z is my daily driver too. I say you will be very happy with the 2 10"'s. I would gladly let you listen to my setup to see how you like it, but it looks like you're in Texas and I'm in CA.

edit: And no, you wouldnt need a separate bass controller. Any decent headunit would be able to turn down the bass enough if you wished without a problem.

You guys have me convinced...not that I needed much convincing. However, I'm too much of a wuss in terms of tempting fate and removing my spare, so I just ordered one of Mike's boxes I'm also going to be running some CDT HD-62s for my comps and CL6 coaxials for rears (I know I shouldn't get them, but I just can't deal with a completely forward soundstage). Rears are going to be run by my H/U...Sony WX-7700MDX (the whole reason I started this project, I just fell in love with the thing). Thanks again for all of your input!

Actually, I wanted my whole audio setup to be "stealth". I didn't want to "advertise" anything to potential thieves by having 2 10"'s under the strut bar, so I went with removing the spare. Just some food for thought...

I don't like running anything off any kind of headunit, but that's just me. Usually the most you'll be getting from any headunit is in the neighboorhood of 22W RMS , which is peanuts. Good job on getting replacements for the rears! You can always tune it anyway so your front speakers will be doing most of the work. Good luck with your install/system!

Since the rears are going to be putting out so little anyways, I figured keeping them slightly underpowered would be okay. Besides, I don't have room for another amp in that tiny little car

Me too. Unless you're over the back window looking in you really don't notice the sub-woofers in the understrut box. I want to get my windows tinted and that's going to bump that hidden level up to a new level.

I drive my car on the streets so I need a spare tire. Sort of like the insurance that I carry too, if you don't have it you need it, it you have it you'll never need it. On my SUV with it's bigger off-road tires I've had three flats in eight years from bolts and nails.

i'd say no to a w7 first off bc two idq 10s are alot chepaer than 1 w7 plus require alotless power so an amp is cheaper. plus the w7 is single 3 so you have to find an amp that puts out decent pwoer at 3 ohms.
and not everything has to always be jl.
oh yeah i think its paul350z but might be someone else who has two amps in the factory sub location so im sure you could put two in there and one outside in the cargo area. basicallywhat im doing. just food for thought.

no but i had my windshield replaced and when they put the new one in i dont htink they attached the mirror correctly so there is a chip where the mirror attaches, which makes it rattle and come loose. Pretty sure my insurance will replace the windhield again, just havent called yet

I am a big fan of keeping things clean. By this I mean it is wise to use amps that have more power than you need. This gives you cleaner power since the amp is not over working its self to meet demand. Also, your subs will last longer (assuming they have been given a proper break in) and also sound better because of the cleaner power. I would also recommend that you get a sub that can handle more power than you intend to use.

you can check out my system in my jeep here if you wish.

The 2nd amp fits perfectly in the stock sub location in the little compartment behind the driver's seat

I plan on sticking my only amp in the sub area. The PG 200.4 is a tight fit, but I know it can fit in there. Any more, and I'd be afraid of overheating the area. As for JL...it's just not a brand I'm interested in, and I have no intention of breaking any windows The IDQ10 should well on 200W as it's meant to be an SQ sub and doesn't require much:

just disconnect the rears. they sound like poop anyway, and you don't need a rear source when you're listening to stero music. the soundstage is just fine w/ the front speakers alone....especially considering the location of the rears.

Hey Derek...don't know how much you've purchased, but I have some items I'm selling if you're interested.
