Default Airbag Light Reset ... Dealer Wants to Charge ??

Hey all, Happy New Year!

I'm in need of a little advice ... I called the Dealer to go in and schedule an Oil & Filter Change -- it's free. I figured that while I was there, I'd have them reset their airbag light that came on after I had the passenger seat pulled out to get into the rear cubby a little easier.

They said they could do it, but there would be a $80 charge to reset the system. Because the 'Whole System Needs to be Reset'. Do I really need to pay someone $80 to plug a wire in and press 'Clear' ?

Thanks!

well, you should have removed you key before taking the seat out. What do you expect? They should fix your mistakes for free? They do run a business after all.

Battery was Disconnected and no key was in the ignition when the seat was taken out. I can't remember if we tested the cable connections while the seat was still out.

To confirm, this only occurs when the seat is disconnected and the ignition is switched to On?

And yes, I think they should fix this for free since it's a matter of hooking up a wire and pressing clear. I could do it myself if I had the right computer. So ... next question ... anyone have a brand/model of Diag Computer that will reset this for me?

Yes. If your battery was disconnected. This never should have been a problem.

There is a TSB on the side air bag module have the dealer check on that. I had both of mine replaced due to that TSB.

The Nissan console II is the computer you need to reset the airbag light (not available at Pep Boys)

I've had my passenger's seat in and out with and without the key on and with and without the battery connect. I had no warning lights. The reset shown above is a good thing to cut-n-paste into my scrap book of tips.

I gave this a shot -- just turned the ignition to on (didn't actually start the car) ... waited 10s between retries and did it 4 times ... no go ... airbag light still blinks ...

Anyone have that TSB Number?

just wanted to type a quick thank you to raceboy for posting that procedure. Even though the battery was disconnected and key was out, I had the light after the JDM NISMO (airbag equipped) steering wheel install - this got rid of it
