Default iPod connection article Sport Z mag: a recap

Hello all. Just finished reading the article on the Sport Z mag on how to connect the iPod to the Z "standard" HU (pages 16 and 17). Now, I've had a good session on the good old "search" function and here it goes. The article runs through various types of connection, ranging from the cheaper FM transmitter to iCruze device. I am about to go ahead with the install on my 2005 35th anniv Z with stock Bose sound HU and I have a couple of things to clear up before splashing the cash. My HU has 3 buttons close to the top edge with "CD6", "TAPE" and "FM/AM" written on them; so, going by other threads on the topic, it shoud be SAT ready. Questions:
1. can you all confirm that I could go ahead with the AAI-NIS unit from Pac-Audio?
2. if yes, anyone care to show how they went about fixing the iPod the the car (cup holder or other...pics would be nice)?
3. Pac audio also offer an "AUX-POD" thing. Anyone know what it's for?
4. say I went for the more expensive iCruze option...can you confirm it actually utilises the steering wheel controls and that the install is pretty stright forward? Does the iCruze come with all the "right" bits for the Z?
5. would anyone recommend the iCruze over the Harman Kardon drive+play device?
Sorry for the longwinded thread, but I need to be absolutely sure before I make EVEN MORE cockups (I went for the "standard" tape thingy and it sucks)! thanks all

first off, I'm confused. You say you have a 35th edition, which means an '05, but you say you have a fm/am button. Are you sure? I would think you have a 'Radio' button. This means it's sat ready. This means you'd use the AAI-NIS which will give you 2 aux. inputs. I have an '03 w/ Bose w/ the am/fm button. I'm getting the SOundgate AUX-NISS which gives me ONE aux. input based on the head units ability to control an external cd changer.

Will the iCruze utilize your steering wheel controls? I don't know the answer to that, but I doubt it, and I honestly think it's overpriced.

My aux-niss is on order and I plan on mounting the ipod in the nav cubby.

Ah....EU spec. Sorry, didn't notice your location.

Well, in the U.S., any head that has the "FM/AM" button will accept this:
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundauxniss.html

I can't say for sure it will work on your car, but it sounds like you have the same head unit as the '03 Z's over here have, and this piece works great. It acts as an external CD changer and DOES NOT remove the functionality of the in dash 6 disc changer.

Bastards! Logjam are out of stock...I'll keep looking THANKS A MILLION!!!

I need help again...I got a little CONFUSED now...looked at Soundgate AUX-NISS from the link above, but out of stock and they won't ship outside the US. What is the difference with this other type? http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=610
Also, why wouldn't the PAC AAI-NIS work for me instead? Anyone with my same stereo type care to HELP? I need a definite answer...forget the car is 2005: it has 3 buttons (6 CD changer in deck+tape) saying "CD6", "TAPE" and "FM/AM" on them. I'd imagine it is NOT SAT ready...HEEEELLPPPP!!! All I want is to hook up the iPod to my stereo, controlling the thing from the steering wheel controls if possible. I'd like to keep the CD changer to work AS WELL...THANKS!

By "forget the car is 2005" I mean that I understand there are differences between specs and also between countries...ie US and EU (Italy at least...). BTW I find it's absolutely ridiculous to have a tape deck in 2005/2006!!

the link you provided is the same AUX-NISS that logjam sells. That is what you need. If discount car stereo.com will ship outside of the U.S., then order that one you linked. The PAC AAI-NIS will NOT work b/c it converts the sat. inputs on certain model head units to aux. inputs. You DON'T have a sat. input.
