My last radar detector took a crap when i floored it last month. Guess it didtn like the voltage surge. So, with my gift card from Best Buy I got a Cobra talking radar detector as a replacement.
I DONT want this one to die on me like my last hardwired unit. Last time i wired it straight to the power outlet fuse and it didnt really seem to help.
Is there any way I can safely keep it from poppin on me? Maybe an inilne fuse? If so, what size? YES, I did look through previous posts but most did not help me.
Thanks
Scott

I have had a hardwired radar detector for the last 12 years and I've never had that happen. Mine have always had inline fuses but I have never blown one. I think it must have been a coincidence or maybe there was a defect with the unit itself.
Some detecters have a transformer/adapter in the plug that reduces the voltage to the unit , just like a cell phone does, if you remove/replace the cord to hardwire it you overvoltage the unit and it fries very shortly there after. You may want to check if yours is this style.
